Staff Performance Engineer
Job Description
The Role
Tesla is seeking a highly motivated individual to join the Performance team, dedicated to tackling scalability and performance challenges. Ensuring the delivery of highly available, responsive, and scalable services fo the highest quality is paramount for our customers. Operating within an agile environment, we uphold best practices in tool development and automation frameworks. This is a full-time position based at the Fremont Office.
Responsibilities
- Understand business goals and application objectives to effectively design and implement performance engineering solutions
- Ensure that non-functional requirements for performance (e.g., throughput, latency, memory/CPU usage) are met
- Design, develop, and execute automated Performance Test Plans to validate load, stability, scalability, and reliability standards
- Document and advocate performance standards and best practices to guide development engineering teams
- Develop tools for automating performance monitoring, testing, analysis, and issue reporting
- Diagnose and troubleshoot complex distributed systems handling large data volumes, developing impactful solutions at scale
- Utilize profiling tools to identify performance and concurrency bottlenecks, with a strong focus on Kubernetes infrastructure
- Lead problem resolution and coordination activities, troubleshooting performance and scalability issues across the entire stack
- Work proficiently with various profiling tools such as Dynatrace, SolarWinds, Vivid Cortex, and Catchpoint to identify bottlenecks
- Adapt to a dynamic environment with tight deadlines and evolving priorities
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related Engineering field, or equivalent
- Proficiency in C#, .NET Core, SQL, MySQL, Kafka, Splunk, and Redis
- Familiarity with Linux, Kubernetes (K8), Docker, AWS, GIT, and Artifactory
- Extensive experience in performance engineering across API, web, and client-server applications
- Ability to monitor and identify performance issues across all application layers
- Skill in swiftly identifying root causes and resolving critical performance or scaling issues, with a particular emphasis on Kubernetes infrastructure
- Proficient in developing tools to analyze performance issues, with a strong focus on Kubernetes infrastructure

$104,000 - $348,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
