Position Overview

As Valimail’s newest Staff Platform Engineer, you’ll be a major contributor to the company’s success. You’ll share in the design, development, and deployment of major pieces of the Valimail system. Your technical contributions will help protect dozens of brands, authenticate hundreds of millions of emails every day, and protect people all over the world from fraud.

What You'll Be Doing: 

• Building and maintaining high performance, scalable data pipelines
• Helping ensure that engineering quality goals (test coverage and automation) are met or exceeded as part of the definition of done.
• Building internal tooling to aid other Valimail departments in the performance of their job duties
• Helping analyze and resolve any code performance or scalability issues as reported by internal stakeholders

About You: 

• Extensive experience building high performance backend systems
• 8-10 years backend programming experience in more than three languages. We use Go at Valimail and prefer someone who has Go experience or with languages such as C/C++
  
• Dedication to automation across the board: testing, coding standards, deployment, configuration management, etc. Passion for unit and integration tests
• Commitment to using the right tool for the job
• Ability to quickly diagnose and resolve problems, self-sufficiently understand code-bases 
• Experience working with RDBMS (PostgreSQL), Message Queues (Kafka, SQS), NoSQL 
• (DynamoDB), and external caching (Redis)
• Experience with Data Warehouse/Analytics Design and Implementation, even better if you have experience with Redshift, Clickhouse, Snowflake or similar column-oriented database management systems
• Experience in API design and consumption patterns and best practices
• Experience building, provisioning, and deploying services in AWS in an automated fashion

Bonus Points:

• Proficiency using Linux Shell. Advanced SQL (Joins, Aggregations, implication of normalization)
• Track record of contributing to or maintaining open source projects
• Prior involvement with standards bodies such as the IETF
• Ability to shepherd sophisticated technical concepts through external parties with competing interests, such as open source communities and standards bodies
• Deep expertise with network protocols like DNS
• Understanding of email authentication standards
• Passion for security
