Staff Platform Reliability Engineer, Core Platform

ABOUT THE ROLE 

At Peloton, the Platform organization builds products that enable teams to build and deploy applications more quickly, enabling our engineers to maximize attention on new features and capabilities. Using both quantitative and qualitative feedback from engineers across the organization, we build tools and services that solve problems for the teams building the software that create the best outcomes for our members. 

The Core Platform group works across 4 pillars: 

• Traffic Foundation: Provide application delivery controllers for all request layers running in Peloton's infrastructure 
• Orchestration Foundation: Provide autonomous capabilities for teams to deploy manage and scale applications on Peloton's infrastructure 
• Observability Foundation: Enable teams to instrument, ingest, analyze and visualize all pillars of observability. 
• Core Foundation: Provide and operate common services and components to accelerate teams' development velocity 

This is a very key role to our organization; as a key technical engineering leader your task will be to help us achieve the “500 miles per hour lane” of service development for any team in the Peloton Engineering organization. You will work across all 5 teams mentoring your colleagues about best practices and patterns around high performance micro-service development. 

YOUR DAILY IMPACT AT PELOTON 

• Help us deliver the right abstractions around our underlying kubernetes infrastructure to enable customer teams (eg: teams that are not a part of Core Platform) to quickly set up and ship microservices 
• Provide guidance to various teams in Core Platform about best practices regarding 0 downtime service migration and traffic splitting 
• Develop and share expertise and useful patterns using golang and AWS cloud services (Elasticache, Dynamodb, S3, RDS, MSK, etc) 
• Work closely with customer teams to understand their current pain points about service development and work closely with Senior Managers in the org to devise and ship solutions to alleviate the friction

YOU BRING TO PELOTON 

• Experience writing and deploying applications to a production environment on kubernetes with one or more languages like Golang, Python, Typescript, Rust (bonus!), etc. 
• Experience working across multiple teams of senior engineers in a technical leadership capacity 
• Experience operating high performance, low latency distributed services in production environments with an emphasis on maintaining and improving SLOs + infrastructure costs 
• Strong background in backend infrastructure, distributed systems, and performance analysis 
• Strong understanding of software engineering principles and fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, object oriented design and testability
• Strong experience with developing and deploying code in containerized environments 
• Experience with delivering solutions on AWS or other public cloud platforms
