The Altos Science Computing and Data (SCD) Team is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to join our growing team and help establish our Cloud Engineering and DevOps practice. In this role, you will be responsible for leading the design, development, and maintenance of our cloud infrastructure and scientific computing systems. You will work closely with software engineers, researchers, and IT teams to build and provide systems that are scalable, reliable, and secure.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and maintenance of the Altos scientific compute infrastructure spanning AWS, on-premises, and hybrid deployments
- Facilitate and drive cloud technology adoption cross-functionally across scientific across scientific and research teams
- Understand user needs across a wide range of scientific disciplines, and communicating with users to build systems that they can use productively
- Capable of proposing, building, and owning complex system designs and integrating them into a coherent whole
- Monitor and optimize system performance and cost utilization, including focus on elastic scaling and on-demand compute
- Ensure that systems are secure and compliant with industry standards
- Continuously improve and maintain documentation for our development and deployment processes
Required Qualifications
- B.S. in Computer Science, or related quantitative field, or equivalent technical experience
- 5+ years (depending on level) of experience in a Cloud Infrastructure, DevOps, or systems-focused software engineering role
- Deep experience architecting and operating cloud solutions on AWS, including experience with AWS products relevant to scientific computing
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, Ansible, etc.
- Proficiency in Python, Bash, or other technologies typically used for system orchestration
- Demonstrated track record of hands-on technical leadership, including owning and delegating technical design decisions
The salary range for Staff level is $202,300 - $273,700
The salary range for Senior Staff level is $225,250 - 304,750
The salary range for Principal level is $249,050 - 336,950
