Job Description

Checkr’s mission is to build a fairer future by designing technology to create opportunities for all. We believe all candidates, regardless of who they are, should have a fair chance to work. Established in 2014 and valued at $5B, Checkr is using technology to bring hiring to the next level. A career with Checkr is an opportunity to work with some of the best and brightest minds, disrupt an industry for a better future, and give otherwise overlooked candidates access to employment. Checkr has been recognized in Forbes Best Startup Employers and is a top Y Combinator company by valuation.

We’re looking for a Staff Product Designer to join our team of passionate creatives working to build a fairer future of work. Our growing team is building new products and evolving existing ones — and we need an experienced designer and leader to bring our team to the next level as we imagine the future. We’re a team that values ownership and initiative and we want your ideas and drive to make an impact! We’re looking for someone enthusiastic about using design to solve complex problems and elevate our visual design.

What you’ll do

  • Embed with a product/program area and help define the roadmap, playing a leadership role in the team
  • Set a vision and lead incremental design work to get us there
  • Own the design process. As a lead member of the team, we’re counting on you to scope projects, establish realistic timelines, and evaluate tradeoffs
  • Distill complex information into simple and beautiful user experiences
  • Brainstorm, sketch, wireframe, mock, and produce high-fidelity designs throughout the product development process
  • Build strong relationships with cross-functional teammates in design, research, content, product management, engineering, data science, and operations to conceptualize, build, and ship highly usable products that customers love to use
  • Use data to drive your design decisions. You should be just as comfortable extracting answers from our analytics as you are conducting a usability study of a new feature
  • Participate in UX research with employers and job seekers, and apply the insights to your designs. Advocate for users and their needs
  • Be a strong voice in sharing ideas, challenging assumptions, and bringing best practices to the team
  • Help improve and elevate the role of design within the company

Who you are

  • Experienced product designer (aiming for 7+ years of product design experience, though open to folks with less experience if you can demonstrate that you have the skills)
  • Deep understanding of best practices and contemporary design patterns
  • You have a well-designed, clear portfolio that highlights the impact you’ve had with products that have shipped
  • Focused on success metrics and able to tie your designs to delivering business value
  • Design experience in SaaS, dashboards, and data presentation
  • Mastery of clear information hierarchy
  • Innately curious and always looking to get to the heart of a problem
  • Great at applying research insights to your designs and able to occasionally run research
  • Focused on psychology and why people behave the way they do. Experience with behavioral science is a plus!
  • Thrive in complexity and able to organize and scope projects

Bonus points

  • Experience working with and creating pattern libraries, and passionate about design systems and models such as atomic design
  • You have working knowledge of git, front-end frameworks (ReactJS or similar), and are comfortable contributing changes without much assistance of engineering
  • Bringing additional skills such as illustration, branding, photography, motion design, data visualization, etc

What you get

  • A fast-paced and collaborative environment
  • Learning and development allowance
  • Competitive compensation and opportunity for advancement
  • 100% medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Up to 25K reimbursement for fertility, adoption, and parental planning services
  • Flexible PTO policy
  • Monthly wellness stipend, home office stipend
