Staff Product Manager - Market Insights

As a member of the product management organization, you’ll be part of a cross-functional team whose mission is to lead IonQ on its journey to build the world’s best quantum computing solutions to solve the world’s most complex problems. As the Market Insights PM, you will be responsible for identifying and organizing market insights that would help shape the direction of our product development efforts. These insights include feedback from IonQ’s customers, evolving needs of quantum computing users across multiple industries, and insightful trends in the ecosystem of tools/systems that these users might be engaged with. 

Product Management in quantum computing is no different from any other early-stage industries, with the exciting difference that you get to be among the first people in history to ever grapple with these challenges. Quantum computers and their associated systems rely on cutting-edge technologies across diverse engineering disciplines, including Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, data analysis, and a hybrid execution model that relies on both quantum computers and classical computing resources. Having interest and experience in these fields will serve you well at IonQ, but we don’t expect you to be an expert in any of them. 

You mostly need to demonstrate intellectual curiosity, work well with highly specialized experts, and manage a coherent point of view of what’s important to our end users and what’s required to support our thriving business. Responsibilities:

• Establish a solid understanding of the global quantum industry, and explore all of the available solutions and ecosystem of tools that enable quantum customers to achieve their goals
• Immerse yourself in IonQ’s unique flavor of quantum computing (hardware and software), its advantages, and overall considerations
• Collaborate with the marketing and sales team to understand the expressed needs of IonQ's existing and potential customers, and establish your own direct relationships to form your own independent point of view
• Find creative and efficient ways to gather both qualitative and quantitative information about the quantum industry, user trends, challenges, and solutions that will inform your point of view
• Represent the voice of IonQ’s customers in internal discussions
• Explore different quantum software tools to understand the experience of quantum end-users and identify opportunities for IonQ to improve the experience and success of its own customers
• Collaborate with multiple engineering and professional services teams to understand the expected implementation challenges for quantum end-users and compare that to your other market insights
• Curate all of the above insights in a structured form and synthesize a well-informed point of view of the quantum industry. Create concise and insightful reports/presentations that would help the rest of the IonQ team make better decisions about direction, priorities, investments, and strategy
• Collaborate with all other PMs, marketing, and go-to-market teams to explain your insights and help them adjust their work and plans accordingly

You’d be a good fit if you... 

• Worked in the quantum computing industry or used quantum computers in another industry (hands-on experience developing basic quantum circuits)
• Are comfortable dealing with advanced technologies, even if you have knowledge gaps, while collaborating with a broad range of engineering experts and scientists to improve your understanding
• Have experience in working / collaborating with primary and secondary research vendors to deploy various research methodologies
• Have the ability to synthesize data and opinions into clear written reports/memos about complex topics to represent the voice of the customer at IonQ
• Are capable of organizing insights and priorities despite ambiguity and collaborating with a broad team to understand and adopt your recommendations
• Are self-motivated and independent, capable of breaking large plans into concrete steps and executing them without much guidance or supervision
• Enjoy collaborating with diverse functions and demonstrate effectiveness in establishing productive cross-functional relationships
• Have experience working with data analysis and market research tools
• Have experience doing research in UX organizations (UXR) or similar (optional)
