Staff Reliability Engineer
Job Description
Vicarious Surgical is hiring a Staff Reliability Engineer to join our team in Waltham, MA. As our company’s first reliability engineering professional, you will collaborate cross-functionally to develop a reliability plan, set reliability targets and drive successful reliability improvements. Your work will ultimately culminate in our regulatory submission with supporting reliability data.
Vicarious Surgical is a next generation robotics company developing a disruptive technology with the goal of increasing the efficiency of surgical procedure, improving patient outcomes and reducing healthcare costs.

Responsibilities
- Understand and document reliability needs (market expectations, product life, downtime, MTBF)
- Develop system-level reliability models for highly complex electromechanical capital equipment
- Identify key risk areas (component-level, assembly-level)
- Develop and drive reliability improvement plans for the subsystems (design changes, testing)
- Develop detailed testing plans and execute those plans with an initial focus on key risk areas
- Provide leadership to other engineers and technicians assisting in reliability testing
- Track and communicate ongoing reliability-status updates
- Develop service and preventive maintenance recommendations
- Generate and execute plan to empirically validate reliability models in an FDA setting
- Represent the reliability facet of the regulatory submission to the FDA
About You
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Systems Engineering, Physics, or equivalent
- 8+ years of reliability engineering experience in a highly-regulated field (e.g., medical, aerospace, defense, automotive); candidates with more experience are encouraged to apply and may be considered at a Principal level
- Proven track record of excellence in the field of reliability
- Experience working on a product from early-stage (prototyping) through commercialization
- Experience designing, executing, and reporting tests
- Strong statistical analysis skills
- Able to work effectively in and be a resource for a multi-disciplinary team
- Able to work independently and autonomously when necessary
- Able to communicate effectively across disciplines and organizations
- Ability to review subcontractor test proposals for environmental and reliability testing
- Knowledgeable in electronic part stress analysis (PSA)
