Job Description

Vicarious Surgical is hiring a Staff Reliability Engineer to join our team in Waltham, MA.  A successful candidate will have the ability to develop a reliability plan for both capital and disposable equipment, set reliability targets for both capital and disposable equipment and cascade those targets down to each of the subsystems. Additionally, the candidate will work with the engineering teams to drive successful reliability improvements culminating in our regulatory submission with supporting reliability data.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and drive reliability assurance and improvement plan for the system and its subsystems.
  • Develop reliability models for both capital and disposable equipment. 
  • Generate and execute a plan to empirically validate reliability requirements for an FDA submission.
  • Represent the reliability facet of the regulatory submission to the FDA.
  • Provide technical guidance to engineers and technicians in developing and performing the reliability testing.
  • Work with marketing and systems engineering to create reliability requirements.
  • Work cross functionally with V&V and other engineering teams to verify the reliability requirements.
  • Plan and lead the design for reliability activities throughout the product development project.
  • Determining the best reliability metrics to use and presenting the supporting rationale to engineering leadership.
  • Participate in failure review board, engineering change processes.
  • Participate in the post market surveillance process and provide guidance on data analysis and driving product improvements using such data.
  • Generate baseline reliability estimates for the system and subsystems.
  • Participate in risk management activities, FMEA, other analysis.

About You:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Systems, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Statistics, Mathematics or equivalent.
  • 8+ years of Reliability Engineering experience with complex electromechanical devices in a highly regulated field (i.e. Medical Device).
  • Capable of thinking strategically to plot a path forward for achieving reliability engineering goals.
  • Ability to communicate with engineering/manufacturing/quality teams with diverse backgrounds in various engineering disciplines.
  • Experience working on an innovative product from early-stage (prototyping) through commercialization.
  • Well versed in physics of failure of electronic components, electromechanical, and mechanical devices.
  • Experience designing and performing reliability testing.
  • High competency in statistical analysis, and reliability analysis software tools.
  • Able to work effectively in and be a resource for a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Able to work independently and autonomously when necessary
  • Able to effectively communicate ideas, effectively giving and receiving feedback
  • Ability to review subcontractor test proposals for environmental and reliability testing while validating sample sizes are appropriate
  • Good technical writing and presentation skills.
