Job Description

Bloom Energy is looking for a Staff Reliability Engineer & Analyst to help us build and scale reliability of our next generation products. In this role, you will be responsible for identifying issues, mitigating, and root cause analysis of challenges impacting our product reliability. You support all aspects of the product reliability at system & component levels including operational improvements implementation and helps develop solutions that solve reliability problems. You will leverage all your past hands-on experience to build robust products.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Drive extended product life improvement by identifying needs and working with cross functional teams to find efficient, workable solutions.
  • Assist in analyzing diverse sets of imperfect data and finding common patterns, theme and trends by using Big Data tools
  • Present and deliver data to key cross-functional stakeholders
  • Support sensitivity analysis for complex technical models
  • Utilize working knowledge of Design for Reliability (DFR) process and lead reliability engineering work throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Define the reliability methods and tools for establishing confidence in the product design and implementation.
  • Lead execution of DFR, including defining reliability targets, modeling, DFMEA, test specs and test planning.
  • Manage reliability activities and risks through collaboration with cross-functional teams including failure analyses.
  • Work with the test engineering team to ensure reliability test and verification plans on systems and components are aligned with the requirements.
  • Support reliability data analysis and collaborate with cross functional teams to resolve issues.
  • Gather and analyze data on performance, reliability and degradation for fuel cell, mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Work with other sections to support root cause analysis and corrective actions for various failure modes.
  • Improve data collection and analysis methods for efficient monitoring of fleet performance and reliability metrics.
  • Develop simulations to support predictions of service replacements and costs.
  • Create presentations summarizing analyses with conclusions and recommendations for internal and external audiences.
  • Strong data mining skills and experience in statistical analysis programs and other data visualization tools such as Excel, SQL Python, JMP, ReliaSoft RBD, Tableau, etc.
  • Knowledge of Reliability Block Diagram, Fault Tree Analysis.
  • Skilled at Root Cause and Corrective Actions (RCCA) using Six Sigma or 8D methods to solve complex problems.
  • Lead root cause analyses for using standard industry tools such 8D, 6-Sigma etc.
  • Ability to read design drawings and understand Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Create PowerPoint presentations summarizing the analyses completed with assumptions, conclusions, and recommendations for both internal and external audiences.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Degree in reliability engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) methodology.
  • Ability to design experiments to test risk points and standardize testing procedures.
  • Knowledge of Highly Accelerated Life Testing (HALT) and Highly Accelerated Stress Screening (HASS) methodologies.
  • Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE) for testing.
  • Basic knowledge of chemistry, focused on hydrocarbons, sulfur odors and diatomic molecules.
  • Experience in creating and maintaining dashboards to monitor component and system reliability to act as an early warning for systems that may be going out of control.
  • Basic experience working with hand tools (sometimes needed for performing RCCA and component/part autopsies).
  • Passionate building reliability in the product.
  • 5+ plus of industry-related experience in a reliability analysis and execution.
  • Proven experience developing reliability block models, developing reliability test plans, and reliability analysis, and demonstrated ability to apply the concepts and methods cross functionally.
  • Experience in data analysis, useful life modeling and Weibull analysis.
  • Strong communication, influencing, and collaboration skills and able to work independently with creative and proactive problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to travel between facilities and customer sites both local and international.
Salary Ranges:

$108,200.00 - $155,800.00
