This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Staff Software Engineer, Backend in the United States.
This role sits at the core of a fast-scaling travel and fintech platform, where backend systems directly power real-time pricing, identity, booking, and spend experiences for millions of users. You will design and build highly distributed, high-performance systems that operate at massive scale and directly influence revenue, conversion, and customer experience. Working in a product-driven engineering culture, you will collaborate closely with product, data, and platform teams to solve complex architectural challenges. The environment is highly collaborative, fast-paced, and deeply focused on ownership and impact. You will contribute to critical backend services that must be reliable, secure, and scalable across global usage patterns. This is a hands-on technical leadership role where your decisions shape both system design and engineering standards. You will also mentor engineers and help raise the bar for backend architecture across teams.
Accountabilities:
- Design and develop scalable backend systems, APIs, and distributed services that support high-traffic, mission-critical platforms.
- Lead technical architecture decisions, ensuring systems are performant, secure, and resilient at scale.
- Collaborate closely with Product, Data Science, and cross-functional engineering teams to deliver end-to-end product capabilities.
- Build and maintain real-time systems that support pricing, identity, booking, or marketplace functionality depending on team assignment.
- Drive engineering best practices around system design, testing, observability, and reliability.
- Mentor and support engineers at mid and senior levels, contributing to technical growth and team development.
- Own key technical initiatives that improve system efficiency, scalability, and customer-facing performance.
- Participate in defining standards for API design, versioning, and system integration across services.
- 8+ years of experience in backend engineering, with a strong focus on distributed systems and high-scale architectures.
- Proven experience building and maintaining public-facing APIs with attention to scalability, versioning, and reliability.
- Strong proficiency in modern backend technologies such as Node.js, TypeScript, Kotlin, or similar, along with cloud platforms like AWS.
- Deep understanding of system design principles, microservices architecture, and Domain-Driven Design.
- Experience working in fast-paced, product-driven environments with high levels of ownership.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make architectural trade-offs under ambiguity.
- Demonstrated leadership experience, including mentoring engineers and driving technical direction.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Competitive base salary ranging from $148,200 to $205,000 USD depending on experience and location.
