Marqeta, the trailblazing fintech company, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Staff Software Engineer to join our Cloud and Infrastructure Services team. As a Staff Software Engineer on the Cloud and Infrastructure Services team, you will be instrumental in shaping the foundation of our fintech solutions. What you'll do

  • You will be a part of cloud architecture excellence, design, build, and maintain resilient and scalable infrastructure that supports the core payments platform.  Work with key stakeholders in shaping our cloud policies,  write IaC modules that align with best practices and implement detection capabilities for non compliant architecture.  
  • You will innovate solutions, drive tooling innovation that accelerates developer productivity and reduces toil.  
  • You have technical leadership qualities and can mentor and guide a team of talented engineers, providing technical expertise and encourage continuous learning and professional growth around you.  
  • You will be a part of building continuous integration and deployment, implement CI/CD best practices to streamline and accelerate the development and deployment of infrastructure services.
  • You are an automation champion and can develop and maintain tools for provisioning, monitoring, and managing cloud resources, optimizing system performance and resource utilization.  You will be instrumental in automating redundant efforts in order to make them safer and more compliant.  
  • Work in close collaboration with our security teams to ensure the highest levels of security and compliance for our cloud infrastructure.  
  • Play a key role in incident management, resolving critical issues promptly, and driving post-incident analyses to prevent future occurrences.

  What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5 years of hands-on experience in cloud-based infrastructure design and development, with expertise on AWS or Azure.
  • Proficiency in programming languages and scripting for automation (e.g., Python, Go, Bash).
  • Proven track record of successfully designing and delivering highly available and scalable cloud-based solutions ideally in mission critical environments. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze and troubleshoot complex cloud infrastructure issues.
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform).  
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills. You feel comfortable authoring high quality design documentation and presenting to sr engineers and leadership. 

Nice to haves

  • Experience with scaling large, transactional systems and data sharding.
  • Experience with payments or the FinTech space
  • Experience with Microservices
  • Experience with Java Spring Boot
  • Experience in software delivery pipelines, CI/CD systems, and software deployment and orchestration systems such as Kubernetes and/or Docker
  • Contributions to technical blogs, a public Github repo, or to open source projects

Compensation and Benefits

Marqeta is a Flex First company which allows you to choose your best working environment, whether that be from home or at a company office. To support Flex First, we calibrate pay to a competitive value according to working location. Compensation is aligned according to three tiers within the United States:

  • National: A baseline tier that applies to most of the geographic territory of the United States.
  • Premium: Slightly elevated from the National tier, and oriented toward a narrower set of higher cost-of-living areas, such as Los Angeles CA and Seattle WA
  • Premium Plus: A tier for the most expensive working areas, like the San Francisco Bay area and New York City.

When determining salaries, we consider several factors including, but not limited to, skills, prior experience, and work location. The new-hire base salary range for this position is:

  • National: $121,950 - $162,600
  • Premium: $137,250-  $183,000
  • Premium Plus: $152,475- $203,300
