Staff Software Engineer, Backend

We are seeking an experienced Staff Backend Engineer to join our engineering team. Members of the engineering team work collaboratively as a group to develop systems and infrastructure to serve the needs of our fast growing business. We are looking for staff-level backend engineers to lead initiatives to improve critical infrastructure for services, storage, and orchestration.

• Take ownership and responsibility for building, shipping, and maintaining critical product features
• Design and scale core infrastructures, optimizing for long-term maintainability, performance, and reliability
• Improve monitoring, tracing, profiling, debugging, and deploying
• Improve engineering standards, tooling, and processes
• Lead technical discussions and help drive product decisions with product managers, designers and frontend engineers

• 7+ years of experience in developing/architecting large scale Web services
• A Bachelors, Master or PhD in Computer Science or related fields from a top University
• Experience in databases, distributed systems, and backend performance measurement and optimization
• Proficient in Python or other programming languages such as Go, Java, or C++
• Familiar with web frameworks such as Django
• Experienced in MySQL, Redis, Elastic Search, Kafka, and Cassandra
• Good understanding of database internals like transactions and indexes. Experience in database schema design
• Experience in working on the AWS
• Good understanding of HTTP and networking
• Good understanding operating systems (Linux)
• Good communication skills, good leadership skills, attention to detail
• Strong computer science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, programming languages, distributed systems, and information retrieval
• Experience in Kubernetes is a plus
• San Francisco Bay area based for Hybrid work

Salary range

Salary Range: $180,000 to $240,000 USD per year.
