Staff Software Engineer - Backend Distributed Systems

Are you an experienced distributed systems engineer excited to work on the developer tools that help the biggest companies around the world scale in production with GraphQL? If you care deeply about end-user experience and want to contribute to building tools that you as a developer can have a voice in guiding the direction of read on!

What You'll Do

• Help design and build features that help the world’s largest enterprises go to production with GraphQL.

• Build end-to-end features for our customers using various languages in our tech stack such as React with TypeScript Kotlin Postgres Kafka Rust Druid and more.

• Work closely with product managers and designers to define product experiences and represent the engineering voice in product development.

• Design and build technical integrations between Apollo's cloud services and popular developer tools like Datadog Pagerduty Sentry OpenTelemetry Terraform and GitHub.

• Use new Apollo prototypes before anyone else and help us hone our “developers building for developers” experiences.

• Help onboard new team members and explain the tools we build to our global developer community.

• Help us design and build our own schema while figuring out our own best practices for schema building and graph scaling.

• Participate in on-call rotation if required (team dependent).

Who You Are

• You have deep systems expertise and experience with stateless/fault tolerant systems as well as familiarity with eventing patterns and distributed paradigms.

• You are adept at weighing technical and business trade-offs and can “see down the road and around corners”.

• You enjoy cross-team collaboration and believe in a “rising tides lifts all boats” mentality.

• You level up those around you bringing everyone along for the ride.

• You have the ability to work with many different team members across various orgs and positively influence others.

• You are data-oriented with a history of leveraging data to create a sticky high-quality product for users. Bonus points if you know GraphQL!

$167450 - $211775 a year

We make hiring decisions based on your skills experience and our overall assessment of what we learned during the hiring process. In addition to the U.S. base salary range we also provide equity and benefits.

Location: This is a remote position that can be done from anywhere in the United States or Canada.
