We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join our Fintech Payments Team as part of a dynamic, growth-driven organization based in Missoula, MT or Seattle, WA. This position is open to remote candidates and is an incredible opportunity for someone looking to take on a technical leadership role in a rapidly growing company.
Our Fintech Team is building services that our products use to interface with a variety of payment service providers, card issuers, and other financial institutions. These services underlie critical functions of the company and need to be secure, scalable, and robust, while also having well-designed, easy to use interfaces. As a Staff Software Engineer on the Fintech Team, you will be responsible for the technical leadership of the team, both strategically and tactically. You will also work with the team, engineering manager, product manager, and team members to drive the software forward in terms of both quality and features.
The position is a full-time, individual contributor, code writing role reporting to an Engineering Manager.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Jump into our software and infrastructure, quickly becoming an expert on where we are today
- Help set the direction of multiple payment services and establish best practices
- Identify near term improvements to our existing system. The improvement might include enhancements to our developer experience, infrastructure architecture, or core platform, to support near-term growth and stability
- Collaborate with other engineering leadership and Product Managers to analyze product requirements
- Collaborate with other engineering and Product Managers to analyze product requirements and turn those into actionable technical requirements for the team
- Act as the technical lead for the team, expected to mentor less senior engineers
- Drive productive engineering discussions, generations excitement and buy-in
- Write and review code
You’ll Be Successful With:
- 6+ years of software engineering experience
- Modern web application design paradigms and at least one stack, top to bottom. We are looking for individuals with .NET, .NET Core, Java, or Postgres experience on the back-end. Our front-end stack is React.
- Software Engineering - we’re looking for an expert, someone who has deep experience architecting and writing secure, scalable, reliable, and high-performing systems
- Modern cloud native infrastructure and design principles, specifically in the context of AWS or Azure
- Database design - we’re looking for someone with expertise in optimizing data centric systems. Ideally, experience would include using ORMs and migrating a system from direct-to-DB queries to thoughtful abstraction
- Scaling - we utilize a complex ETL pipeline, SQS queues, Elasticsearch, and more for various large scale problems such as reporting and analytics
- Experience with, and knowing when to use, NoSQL is a plus
- How to build out payments systems - should be able to present a strong track record of getting systems to scale
- Vendor relationship management, especially in the financial sector
The salary range for this position is $160,000-$225,000 annually; base pay offered may vary depending on location, experience, skills, relevant education, and training.
Position Location: This role will be located in Bellevue, WA or Missoula, MT following a hybrid work model.
