Staff Software Engineer - Observability Products
The Observability Products group is responsible for developing a new and expanding suite of observability-related products at Fastly. Weâre looking for an experienced, highly collaborative software engineer to join us as we bring a best-in-class observability experience to Fastly customers. As a part of this group, youâll work cross-functionally with product, design, and engineering to design, evolve, and build the systems and APIs that leverage and derive valuable insights from the real-time and historic data available within the Fastly platform.
What You'll Do
- Design, develop, maintain, and test systems & tools within the Observability product-line
- Work directly with stakeholders and the Product team to find and evaluate opportunities for new Observability products and features
- Design systems that can evolve as we move between different phases of the product lifecycle; from experiments and proof of concepts to stable, performant, and scalable products
- Develop design and architecture documents as a way of collaborating across groups in the design of new systems and APIs
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and customers to craft systems that deliver best-in-class observability products to Fastly customers
- Make your support available to your team when and where they need it â a time zone compatible with the continental US, where your team will be, is a must for this role
- Participate in an on-call rotation
Work Hours:
- This position will require you to be available during core business hours and occasional evenings and weekends as required for on-call rotation
What We're Looking For
Basic Qualifications:
- Experience programming in Go or similar languages
- Experience designing, developing, and testing REST APIs
- Experience with projects related to observability and/or low-latency data collection and analysis
- Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases
- Experience with event-driven systems and/or time-series data
- Experience writing code that is performant, maintainable, clear, and concise
- Experience with complex production systems that support the needs of a rapidly growing business
- Experience collaborating across groups and functions, including Product and design teams, to understand customer needs
- Ability to mentor, guide, and coach team members
- Ability to learn new skills and share what youâve learned with the broader team
Preferred Qualifications:
- Go development
- Kubernetes or similar orchestration platform
- Relational and non-relational storage systems (e.g. MySQL, BigQuery, MongoDB, ClickHouse, ElasticSearch, Graphite)
- Message queues (e.g. Kafka, Kinesis, SQS, etc.)
- Full stack experience with a React front end
Work Location(s) & Travel Requirements
This position is a remote role and open to candidates residing in the following locations: Canada (Remote).
This position may require travel as required by your role or requested by your manager.
