Staff Software Engineer, Personalization

• Build and iterate on new products to help personalize Discord in novel and exciting ways
• Collaborate with engineers across our on our ML squads on the infrastructure powering our new products
• Partner with our ML Engineering and Platform teams to shape the future of ML-powered products at Discord
• Take on critical technical challenges as we start to scale out our new personalized products
• Own major, complex initiatives that are essential to both our team’s and Discord’s success
• Develop deep expertise on both our whole tech stack and user behaviors to help set strategy and priorities for the team
• Work with other staff engineers across Discord to maintain a high technical bar for all our systems and products
• Coach and mentor engineers across our teams to help them level up and grow into the challenges we’re taking on

• 6+ years of full-stack experience. Our team need expertise on everything from user-facing features, our core infrastructure, and how we work with ML infrastructure to deliver on our goals.
• Technical leadership. We need someone who can step up and guide the technical direction of the team working in a space that is technically challenging and complicated across ML, Product, and Infrastructure. This means developing deep expertise as well as leveling up other engineers on the team.
• A builder’s mindset. This team is in its early days and has the opportunity to shape the direction of our products and infrastructure however we need to in order to succeed.
• Deep curiosity. Asking how things work and digging in is essential to understanding how we can personalize Discord for users, especially at scale.
• User empathy. At the end of the day, we can only be successful by making sure we are building products that bring joy and value to our users.
• Comfort in chaos. A lot of our work is exploratory and requires being comfortable working with new systems or having minimal prior work to build on top of.
• Ruthless prioritization. We have a lot of opportunities ahead of us, but we need engineers who can help make hard decisions both on what we should and shouldn’t do.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is ($214,000) to (233,000) + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role and level. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Please note that the compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include equity, or benefits.
