Staff Software Engineer, Search

Search is at the core of the Airbnb marketplace that connects our guests and hosts. It helps guests find the best homes and experiences to fit their needs and wants. Responsibilities:

• Lead search infrastructure engineering projects to improve search experience, system scalability and performance.
• Build close partnerships with other technical organizations at Airbnb. Make sure Search Infra is at the cutting edge of technologies.
• Mentor, guide, advocate and support the career growth of individual contributors

Requirements:

• BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 9+ years of industry experience.
• Expertise in and/or interest in any of the following:
  • Lucene/Solr/Elasticsearch
  • Knowledge extraction: ML, NLP, information retrieval
  • Knowledge serving: Graph DB
  • Search indexing, search serving, search performance, search scalability, Embedding-based retrieval, vector search, information retrieval
• A track record of leading engineering project teams and working with cross functional partners to deliver technical solutions that achieve team and organizational goals
• Great communication skills and eagerness to learn and share knowledge within the engineering organization

The Location

This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed to with your manager. Airbnb,Inc. can employ in  states where we have registered entities. Currently, employees can not be located in: Alaska, Indiana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Alabama, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Delaware and Rhode Island. The Pay

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The starting base pay for this role is between $190,000 and $245,000. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
