We are looking for a Staff System Engineer in the Architecture and System Performance group. As a Staff System Engineer, you’ll be part of a cross-functional team whose mission is to design IonQ’s next generation quantum computers. This job can be based in either our Seattle, Washington office or our Toronto, Canada office.
Responsibilities:
- Work in an interdisciplinary team developing next-generation quantum computer architectures
- Manage interfaces between theory and engineering to ensure that proposed approaches are well documented and can be successfully implemented
- Capture and refine use cases and requirements at the system architecture level
- Develop system models at varying levels of abstraction
- Develop and maintain forward-looking technology roadmaps
- Manage interfaces between the subsystem teams developing next generation quantum computing systems
You’d be a good fit with:
- Masters Degree and 5+ years experience in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, System Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering or related fields
- Demonstrated significant contributions and technical leadership on at least one complex system development
- System Modeling and Simulation experience (e.g., SysML, Matlab/Simulink, etc.)
- Programming Experience in one or more modern programming languages and familiarity with modern software development processes and tools
You’d be a great fit with:
- Ph.D. and 5+ years experience in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, System Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering or related fields
- Experience with optical, opto-mechanical design and implementation
- Experience with tuning, stabilizing, maintaining, locking lasers
- Experience developing quantum systems and/or quantum control electronics, particularly trapped ion quantum systems
- Experience with silicon photonics such as sources, waveguides, gratings, metamaterials
- Experience with the IC development and foundry process
Our HQ is located in College Park, Maryland and we are a 15 minute metro ride from Washington DC. We have also recently announced our new manufacturing and production facility in the Seattle, Washington area. We are actively building out teams in the Washington D.C., Seattle, Boston and Toronto metro areas and will want to locate you in one of these geographies. However, IonQ will be expanding into additional geographies both domestically and internationally so don’t let this stop you from applying.
