Staff Systems Engineer, Business Technology

The Airbnb CRM (AirCRM) team is building best in class CRM  solutions to support our Airbnb community. This team is responsible for the product and technology that enables intelligent, scalable and exceptional products that support our business users which provides support to our Community of millions of guests and hosts who take trips and join experiences around the world every year.  AirCRM's main vision is to build rich relations which matter to our community, our products maintain and drive the engagement that Airbnb has with our community.   

As a senior technical individual contributor, you will bring a unique skill set and experience to our organization, lead the architecture and design of the product, hands on to handle complex & advanced coding challenges, and work to solve some of the broader technical challenges within the organization. You will work both on the overall AirCRM architecture and future vision for the business, but will also lend expertise to specific teams and deep dive into projects as needed. You will be a thought leader and demonstrate strong problem-solving & analytical skills by recommending solutions and improvements that can be accomplished through technology. 

Our engineering organization is one where we value everyone’s input and ideas. Although you will be at the Senior Architect level, all individual contributors at Airbnb are Engineers, will be expected to be hands on, and contribute code.

• Design the future state of our CRM technical systems by combining a strategic understanding of our highest level product goals with a deep understanding of our existing systems to inform the right technical and product tradeoffs for both short and long term
• A typical day starts with a daily-standup, where you get an accurate view of the team’s output, their technical blockers so that you can provide the right support engineers to move forward in their tasks without any friction.
• Embedding Engineering best practices and being the goto person for all the engineers to technically guidance.
• Nurture a culture of technical quality from design, through code review, to production operations
• Mentor other engineers in developing their technical and collaboration skills
• Drive the innovative use of CRM platform & products as an enterprise business platform for a rapidly growing and evolving company.
• Taking impactful features from idea to implementation, champion best practices and policies, guide and influence the team on leveraging such practices.
• Influence the organization, engineering leaders, product managers, and the business to develop a unified approach to CRM Platform
• Drive user story analysis, elaboration and design. Thrives to ensure code quality is high with supporting unit tests, on time delivery. Self-managing to come up with pre-sprint technical design and grooming activities.
• Working with business leadership, stakeholders, and IT to understand and document system requirements for data, SLAs/service levels, user experience, training, data governance, and performance
• Last, but not least, you’re likely to be the one responsible for recruiting the right engineers by taking interviews and adding new initiatives to drive innovation and tech excellence for the overall team culture.

• 10+​ years of relevant engineering work experience and 4+ hands-on technical management experience.
• 5+ years with any leading CRM platform (preferably Salesforce).
• Experience building scalable support products for customer support.  
• Strong coding abilities and experience with architectural patterns of large, high-scale applications.
• Familiarity with patterns, libraries and frameworks for building and testing services, and service-to-service communication.
• Experience building, leading, and architecting large systems at enterprise scale with a great impact (e.g. including well-designed APIs, applicable user interfaces, high volume data pipelines, efficient algorithms)
• Technical leadership with hands on experience leading project teams and setting technical direction and strategy
• Experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, and/or cross-business projects
• Strong communication and collaboration skills & ability to lead high-level discussions on technology strategy and approach
• Experienced with data management and data architecture
• Actively coached and mentored team members in their careers
• Consistently made culture choices that positively impact all of engineering

This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed to with your manager.
