Staff V&V Engineer

Vicarious Surgical is hiring a Staff Verification & Validation Engineer to join our team in Waltham, MA. The V&V group includes cross-functional team members spanning a number of test and engineering disciplines. As a Senior V&V Engineer you will contribute to all aspects of system-level verification and validation testing, and medical device design controls. 

Vicarious Surgical’s novel approach to surgery uses a combination of proprietary, human-like surgical robots and virtual reality to transport surgeons inside the patient when performing minimally invasive surgery.

Additional specific responsibilities are listed below.

Responsibilities:

• Lead projects and initiatives that test concepts and prototypes, and to answer key questions.
• Determine key findings from early testing and collaborate with core teams to enhance the system’s design.
• Work with Systems Engineering and other cross-disciplinary engineering functions to develop test cases and protocols for design verification and validation.
• Manage interfaces with Quality, Regulatory, and Clinical representatives to satisfy each department’s needs from V&V and to achieve common goals.
• Create and implement formal testing strategies and contribute to risk-management activities.
• Lead the verification approach and test planning efforts for the system and co-ordinate with subsystem test leads.
• Lead verification and validation of test tools and related strategies where required and in advance of formal DV schedules.
• Execute verification and validation tasks according to development lifecycle timelines.
• Manage complex V&V program tasks from strategy thru detailed planning and formal execution. 
• Work with program management representatives to ensure V&V deliverables are properly represented and linked where necessary to proper predecessor tasks. 
• Write reports and log issues for executed verification tests.
• Lead technical reviews and participate in system design reviews.

About You:

• 8+ years of multi-cycle V&V experience in the medical device industry, preferably focusing on complex medical device capital equipment.
• Previous system level V&V experience including team leadership for projects from early development thru commercialization. 
• Minimum of a B.S. in Systems, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering
• Demonstrated working knowledge of test engineering principles and scientific methods.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to mentor, guide, and train junior engineers in the complexities and nuances associated with V&V on complex systems.
• Experience using the following software packages: Minitab, Jira, Jama, Arena PLM and MS-Project.

Nice to Have:

• Previous experience working on surgical systems including cadaver and/or porcine studies.
• Previous experience working with robotics.
• Previous experience developing test automation systems and frameworks using tools such as National Instruments CVI or TestStand. 
• Previous Test Laboratory experience from both design and operational capacities considered a big plus.
