Stamford Health is an independent, not-for-profit health system that comprises a 305-bed acute care hospital, an ambulatory network including four multispecialty centers, and a medical group with more than 150 physicians in 40 offices throughout Fairfield County. With more than 3,700 employees, Stamford Health is the largest employer in the City of Stamford and contributes more than $1 billion a year to the local economy. Stamford is seeking a Chair to lead the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, which has more than 65 affiliated physicians representing the full array of services and subspecialties and hosts 16 residents through a four-year residency program.

The Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) represents an outstanding opportunity for a distinguished physician to provide strategic leadership, direction, and coordination for all components of the Department while working collaboratively with medical and administrative leadership to meet and exceed health system goals. The position is a full-time Department Chair role that will enable the Chair to lead a successful department while continuing to work in clinical practice.
Reporting to the Chief Physcian Executive, the Chair of OB/GYN is responsible for the successful functioning of the Department and accountable for all professional and administrative activities within the Department, including overseeing all obstetric, gynecologic, and outpatient specialty care.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible for all professional and administrative activities within the Department.
  • The Chair will serve as a member of the Medical Executive Committee (MEC), giving guidance on the overall medical policies of the hospital and making specific recommendations and suggestions regarding the Department in assuring quality patient care.
  • Monitor and review the professional performance of all practitioners with clinical privileges in the Department through the maintenance of quality control programs.
  • Monitor and review the performance of all employees in the Department.
  • Report regularly to the MEC concerning the Department’s performance improvement activities.
  • Provide recommendations for strategic planning and future direction of departmental initiatives.
  • Responsible for the enforcement within the Department of the hospital bylaws, the medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations, and departmental rules and regulations.
  • Responsible for implementing actions within the Department by the board of directors, the medical staff, and the MEC.
  • Responsible for recommending to the MEC and medical staff criteria for privileges within the Department.
  • Transmit to the credentials committee and the MEC department’s recommendations concerning staff classification, appointment and reappointments, departmental assignments, and assignments to divisions within the Department, and delineation of clinical privileges for all members of the Department.
  • Responsible for the Department’s orientation, teaching, education, and research programs.
  • Promote the integration of the Department into the organization’s mission and participate in coordinating interdepartmental and intradepartmental services to facilitate optimal patient care.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for providing clinical services in cooperation with the nursing service, service line directors, and hospital administration.
  • Assist in preparing such annual reports, including budgetary planning, about the Department and divisions thereof as may be required by the MEC, the chief executive officer, or the board of directors.
  • Recommend to the MEC and board of directors the appointment of division directors and vice chair.
  • Responsible for making recommendations to the MEC regarding space and other resource needs of the departments.

IDEAL EXPERIENCE
Clinical Leadership
  • Serves or has served as a Chair, Vice Chair or clinical leader in the department. Must have the ability to develop programs and possess solid understanding of Medical Practices finances.
Clinical operations management
  • Success managing complex clinical programs focused on access, quality, patient satisfaction, and support of physicians and staff.
Proven relationship-building skills
  • A history of sustaining collegial relationships with peers, departmental staff, hospital administration, and external stakeholders, such as donors. Ability to develop collaborative, mutually beneficial relationships with the referring medical community and community-based OB/GYN’s is essential.
Commitment to equity and justice
  • Evidence of commitment to and success in advancing institutional initiatives in diversity, inclusion, and equity.
M.D. or D.O. degree and board certification in obstetrics and gynecology
  • Licensed or eligible for medical licensure in Connecticut
