The Opportunity

This is an exciting time to join the Individual and Corporate Giving team as the Center for Employment Opportunities develops our donor engagement strategy! The Stewardship and Development Associate will receive first-class support and guidance in their non-profit fundraising career.

The Stewardship and Development Associate will join a robust team of fundraising professionals living CEO values of person-centered, community, impact, and equity. In partnership with the Director of Individual and Corporate Giving, the Associate will help weave the values into the day-to-day fundraising campaigns and corporate philanthropy partnerships. 

This role offers the opportunity to flex your creative muscles to engage individual and corporate donors in support of CEO’s mission. CEO sees our donors as partners in our efforts to support individuals returning home. The Associate will create and share content that furthers CEO’s corporate giving efforts, improve data systems, and manage donor information in CEO’s Salesforce database with an aim to increase donor engagement.

They will also spearhead the acknowledgment, recognition, and stewardship of donors, and manage a small portfolio of annual fund donors (gifts up to $2,499). Additionally, the Stewardship and Development Associate provides administrative support for the Director of Individual and Corporate Giving.

Who We Are 

The Center for Employment Opportunities (CEO) provides employment services to people with recent criminal convictions. Across the United States, over 6,000 people participate in CEO each year, transitioning to employment that supports themselves, their families, and their communities.

What began as a demonstration project of the Vera Institute of Justice in the 1970s to address employment barriers facing the formerly incarcerated following release in New York City has grown into the leading reentry employment organization in the country, where over 25,000 formerly incarcerated individuals have secured full-time employment since 1996. Since 2009, CEO has gained support to expand its programs through government, nonprofit, and private organizations including the GreenLight Fund, the Pew Charitable Trust, and the Nonprofit Finance Fund. In 2016, CEO embarked on a 5-year strategic plan to grow to serve 9,000 participants annually. 


Who You Are

  • You have excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with experience writing for senior executive staff
  • You have the ability to ask clarifying questions and take initiative when managing projects
  • You are detail oriented; ensures accuracy in communications, gift processing, and data management. 
  • You preferable have 2-3 years experience with social campaigns and passion to build a socially just world, with an interest in having a fundraising career. 
  • You are a strategic thinker with the ability to flourish in fast-paced environments with competing demands
  • You can operate with ease in collaborating, liaising, and negotiating with multiple diverse constituencies and departments by tailoring your communication efforts to various audiences
  • You have the ability to retain detailed programmatic information and act as a programmatic resource for the department
  • You have exceptional organizational skills and the ability to create and maintain systems to support organization
  • You are a strong task and project manager with the ability to maintain oversight of details as you coordinate many moving pieces under tight timelines
  • You are proficient in Google Suite, and have experience with fundraising databases (Salesforce preferred)
  • You are growth focused and thrive on designing, implementing, and evaluating initiatives, possesses and systems

What You’ll Be Responsible For

Key responsibilities of the (title) include but are not limited to:

Fundraising Strategy & Implementation

  • Coordinate multi-channel (email, social media, phone) year-end appeals, including timing, content writing, workflow management, and working with internal stakeholders across departments
  • Create social media toolkits for partners (board, donors, corporates) to share content with their networks
  • Draft correspondences (such as pitch decks and informational materials) to secure and maintain corporate relationships 
  • Organize events that are engaging and compelling for corporate partners

Tracking and Analysis

  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of records in Salesforce database, including tracking of appeals, contact information, and relationship history
  • Researches donor trends and strategies to improve retention and acquisition rates such as (monthly donors, lapsed donors, annual, mid-level and major donors). 
  • Generates reports and updates fundraising records in CEO’s Salesforce database, including preparing reports for relevant internal stakeholders

Donor Stewardship

  • Supports the Director of Individual and Corporate Giving with implementing and managing a comprehensive donor stewardship plan (this includes all forms of donor communication, such as phone calls, as well as written and electronic correspondence)
  • Oversee agenda and action for moves management meetings with Executive Team
  • Supports creating and executing an annual fundraising and donor engagement strategy (including creating volunteer opportunities, leadership committees, special events, and more)
  • Ensures streamlined donor engagement by managing the operations of the gift acknowledgement process, including drafting and mailing of donor acknowledgement letters, donor reports, tribute packets, pledge reminders and other periodic donor-centric reporting
  • Implements the day-to-day administration of the stewardship program and answers donor inquires

Gift Processing

  • Processes daily gifts and reconciles revenue reports with Finance
  • Provides tax acknowledgments for all donations
  • Promotes and tracks matching gift opportunities

 Other Responsibilities

  • Support Institutional Giving team in crafting language for grant proposals, as needed
  • Support the team on special projects as needed

Compensation and Benefits

The salary for this position is $60,400/annually. CEO's compensation philosophy considers a variety of factors including experience, internal equity, and the labor market associated with the city in which the position is located. The labor markets associated with the cities in which CEO is based are variable, and the salary range included here reflects this. Our salary offer will fall within this range and will be reflective of the labor market of the city in which the position is based, as well the other factors named above.
