The Role
As a member of the Digital Strategies team, you will be a critical part of fulfilling Engineering’s mission: to establish a world-class, hands-on team that applies innovative technology solutions to drive scale and attack opportunities with the greatest commercial impact.
Strategists are the connective tissue between the investing and technology teams. Embedded alongside the investing teams, we collaborate closely with our colleagues. Our technical chops and business knowledge drive commercial outcomes across Sixth Street. Areas of focus include data science & analytics, pricing & risk management, portfolio optimization, automation, and machine learning.
This is a unique opportunity to be a defining member of a small, growing team within a firm transforming how private markets operate. In this role you will have two primary focus areas: 1) you will work with senior Strategists in our Credit Market Strategies platform to take on day-to-day responsibility for our risk and trade idea generation systems; and 2) you will focus on building an internal platform for analyzing the foundational data required for underwriting, portfolio reviews, valuations, and portfolio analytics. You will have the opportunity to work across Sixth Street’s investment platforms understanding the key drivers for investment decisions and portfolio management.
Core Responsibilities
- Work closely with other Strategists, Engineering teams, and Sixth Street investment teams to empower commercial decisions with data science
- Invest towards strategic Technology Portfolio goals (e.g., Sixth Street’s new data warehouse) by delivering business-specific tactical wins that build on each other
- Build a deep understanding of Sixth Street’s underwriting, risk, and portfolio management processes, identify ways to improve them using data and technology, then deliver those improvements
- Manage the planning, implementation, and development of novel systems/processes to extract, standardize and store time series financial metrics
- Serve as a technical architect for the development of a platform capturing financial data from Sixth Street’s investments powering an analytics engine to ultimately drive investment decisions

- 3+ years of programming experience in a client-centric environment, including Python (preferred), R, SQL, Java, JavaScript, C++, MATLAB, or equivalents
- Experience delivering insights (using appropriate BI, analytics, visualization tools) from a broad range of datasets
- Financial mathematics & capital markets experience (or, for junior candidates, at least a strong interest in learning about them in practical ways)
- Familiarity with fixed income asset classes, including loans, bonds, and interest rate markets
- Understanding of financial statements (e.g., Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Cash Flow Statement)
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to connect and speak clearly with technical and non-technical audiences is a must
- Solid time management & organizational skills
- Comfortable working on multiple projects
- Ability to collaborate and build relationships across investment and engineering groups
- Sweating the details, but not getting lost in them
- High integrity and trustworthy
Preferred
- Programming experience “pluses”
- Cloud architecture and development (AWS, Cloudformation and CDK for Infrastructure as Code, Docker)
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect is an additional plus
- Data manipulation and analysis libraries (Pandas, NumPy, SciPy)
- Front end development (Typescript, React, and Redux)
- Data visualization (Tableau, Dash)
- Data warehouse (Snowflake)
- Slack integration/workflow management
- Generative AI (ChatGPT/OpenAI API)
- Machine Learning
- Version control (GitHub)
- Automated deployment pipelines (GitHub Actions)
- Job orchestration tools (Airflow)
- API development (FastAPI) and system integration
- Cloud architecture and development (AWS, Cloudformation and CDK for Infrastructure as Code, Docker)
- Familiarity with financial modeling in Microsoft Excel
- Familiarity with Atlassian’s suite of tools for project management (Jira, Confluence)
The base salary for this position is expected to be between $175,000 and $250,000. The base salary offered to the selected candidate will be commensurate with a candidate’s relevant experience and other qualifications for the position, as determined by Sixth Street in its sole discretion.Â
In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus and a competitive benefits package. Benefits offered currently include health, life, long-term and short-term disability insurance and a 401(k) plan. In addition, this role is eligible for paid public holidays (NYSE calendar), paid sick days pursuant to local laws, and additional reasonable time off subject to manager approval.Â
If a job offer is extended for a location other than New York, the salary range may differ based on the location.
