Strategy and Outreach Manager

Job Summary:

Crooked’s Political Strategy and Outreach Manager will lead and expand Crooked Media’s state level engagement on legislation, issue advocacy, and elections through political relationship management and strategy development. This role will also help define and develop the scope of the strategy and outreach team within the political department. Additionally, this role will provide support to the Political Director as needed. 

Crooked has adopted a hybrid work model for our entire staff. We believe that the best work is done in a hybrid capacity as it combines the flexibility of working from home with in-person collaboration. We are ideally looking for DC-based candidates, or candidates willing to relocate within the first 3 months of accepting an offer. In addition, Crooked requires all employees to provide proof of full vaccination and booster to combat the spread of Covid-19. 

How You’ll Spend Your Time:

Relationship Cultivation and Management

• Source, develop, and maintain external relationships with state based organizations, parties, and public office holders. 
• Work cross-functionally within Crooked to ensure all relevant departments understand strategic goals and campaigns. 
• Vet political action by appropriate outside parties to ensure the integrity and efficacy.
• Communicate political strategy and strategic goals in a front-facing way for outside partners or audiences.
• Field collaboration inquiries from public office holders/candidates, organizations, activists, etc. 

Strategy Development  

• Assess state and local political landscapes to determine where Crooked can have the greatest impact. 
• Develop strategies to execute political priorities for state based elections and initiatives.
• Monitor the news cycle to identify opportunities where Crooked could have an impact on building a progressive power or shifting the overton window on a policy / political issue. 
• Work independently to adjust strategic goals or tactics based on changes in the political landscape.

Content and Campaign Support 

• Work with Campaigns Manager to inform campaigns based on strategy and political intel. 
• Work with Crooked podcast, social, and video teams to integrate strategic goals and campaigns into content formats.
• Manage polling relationships and creation. 

What You’ll Bring To The Table:

• 4-6 years related experience (experience on Capitol Hill, campaign, or political/advocacy org)
• Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Ability to articulate strategy to stakeholders, internal and external 
• Excellent project management skills, with strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask
• Experience managing others preferred
• Strong interest in and understanding of US politics 
• Strong relationships with progressive, political stakeholders (state level a plus)
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills 
• Strong research and synthesis skills 
• Entrepreneurial attitude to manage projects from conception to execution 
• Sense of humor

When we open up a position, we conduct a market analysis to ensure we have the most up-to-date data. Once we’re ready to extend an offer, we look at the individual’s years of relevant experience and other compensable factors to determine a competitive offer. And for this role, the starting salary range is $75,000 -$80,000.
