We are looking for a talented Structural Analysis Engineer - Technical Specialist to join our team specializing in Engineering for our Power Systems Business this is a hybrid role based in Fridley, MN or Seymour, IN and your home office.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
- Lead Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) analysis projects related to engine and generator sub-systems.
- Choose the appropriate modeling technique as necessary for the phenomena being investigated.
- Deliver design recommendations by performing a variety of investigations including simulations and hand calculations for evaluating thermo-mechanical fatigue, transient vibration from the engine, shock load input from a variety of sources including road transportation, lifting, seismic effects, engine performance, driveline torsional evaluation, Cummins proprietary analysis methods for power cylinder, piston, pin etc. Ansys will be the primary structural analysis tool used.
- Deliver results and recommendations through professionally written reports for avoiding failure modes and improving reliability.
- Lead development projects related to analyses tasks mentioned above for improving and expanding the scope of analysis predictions with regard to reality.
- Lead the simulation effort for a new product introduction program that involves structural, CFD, 1D analyses amongst others performed by other analysts and manage simulation tasks to meet/exceed internal stakeholder needs.
- Act as a key liaison between the H1-ALDV (Analysis Led Design and Validation) team and the electrical team delivering crucial insights on electrical system design and specifically battery design.
- Have knowledge and experience of simulating thermal mechanical loading in electrical system design of both alternating and direct current applications.
- Act as a coach and mentor to other analysis team colleagues sharing best practices and knowledge.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or material science.
- Prior Senior or Lead Engineer equivalent work experience (at least 4 years) in a relevant discipline area is required with a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving and quality decision making.
- Preferred candidates would have a mix of experience using MS Office tools, Matlab, Python, APDL-ANSYS, FORTRAN or C programming, Windows/Linux operating systems, and desktop/remote high performance computing hardware systems.
- This position, located in Fridley, MN is with the H1-ALDV (Analysis Led Design and Validation) team responsible for performing Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) Analyses such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Fatigue analysis, Linear and Torsional Vibration Analysis of engine and generator components and sub-systems.
- This role will focus on providing design recommendations based on simulation and analysis as well as analytical hand calculations to internal stakeholders towards improving component/sub-system designs and mitigating critical failure modes.
- This role will also involve leading development projects focused on broadening analysis capabilities to meet newer and higher expectations from stakeholders based on business needs.

Base salary rate commensurate with experience.
