Compensation: $120,000 - $160,000 / year

Description

As a Structural Analyst at Impulse Space, your core responsibility is to lead the analysis of complex metallic and composite primary structures. You will work closely with a fast-paced, agile team that produces high-performance spacecraft from clean sheet designs.

Responsibilities

• Perform hand calcs and numerical analyses to validate and improve structural design
• Evaluate and report results including stress, strain, stability, failure criteria, etc.
• Assist with sizing and architectural trades including stiffness, durability, and strength
• Build and maintain full vehicle FEM and component FEMs
• Apply appropriate loads, environments, boundary conditions, and modeling assumptions
• Select appropriate allowables, correction factors, and safety factors
• Work alongside Responsible Engineers and Test Engineers to devise load cases, test plans, test reports

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
• 5+ years experience performing structural analysis of high performance systems
• Proficient with at least one industry standard structural FEA package (Femap/Patran/NASTRAN, ANSYS, Abaqus, etc.)
• Strong knowledge of strength and stability hand calculations for structural sizing and model validation
• Strong understanding of mechanics of materials, material failure modes, and associated analysis methods
• Familiarity with a wide set of manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, forming, joining methods, and composite construction
• Proficiency with CAD software and the ability to learn new tools
• Demonstrated experience working collaboratively across different teams
• Ability to communicate technical challenges, explain rationale and/or resolve concerns

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Strong understanding of both metallic and composites engineering fundamentals
• Experience with structural test, validation, and correlation methods
• Experience with creating appropriate test load cases from complex combined loads
• Experience with linear and non-linear buckling
• Experience with materials testing
• Ability to create analysis tools to expedite analysis time
• Experience working on a launch vehicle or satellite development effort
• Experience in a startup or agile development environment

Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. In addition to base salary, for full-time hires, you may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.
