Structural Engineer
Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Structural Engineer to be based in Latham or Amherst, NY.
This position is expected to begin in January 2023.

The candidate would be assigned to the Latham, NY office's Highway/Bridge Department, in AECOM's Transportation Business Line, and would work on a variety of civil engineering projects for local, state, and federal agencies and private sector clients. Projects are located throughout New York State. The position would involve some travel - to visit project sites, clients, or other AECOM offices - but primarily this is an office position.
The preferred candidate would have good written communication and organizational skills and be willing to work collaboratively with colleagues to help the team meet project goals and comply with company standards. The candidate will work under the direction of a professional engineer and would be given assignments of increasing complexity as experience is gained.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Performing CADD drafting and introductory-level design of projects using MicroStation/InRoads or AutoCAD/Civil 3D software programs.
- Preparing basic engineering calculations, including quantity estimates.
- Providing checking-type review of plans, calculations, and reports prepared by others.
- Contributing to the writing, typing, editing, and/or formatting of technical letters and reports.
- Completing field assignments in support of design work, including making measurements, taking photographs, and checking for mapping accuracy.
- Attending project meetings, including occasional evening meetings such as public information sessions.
- Using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook programs effectively.
- Attending training as directed and arranged by AECOM.
- Assisting with AECOM Project Delivery System requirements by organizing, filing, distributing, and handling digital and paper project documents.
- Completing all work in a reliable and professional manner.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field.
- Valid Driver's License required.
- Due to the nature of this role, US citizenship is required.
- Master's Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or related field Preferred.
- Ability to draft using CADD.
- Familiarity with structural engineering computer software.
- Relocation is not available for this position.
- Travel is required for this position.
