Sierra Space's Orbital Systems and Services (OSS) division focuses on the design, build, and operations of small satellites in support of commercial services and national security space and offers two work locations: Louisville, Colorado and Centennial, Colorado.
As an Aerospace Stress Engineer, you will be using your skills and expertise to research, architect, model, simulate, test, qualify and improve cutting edge products and services. You'll be performing stress analysis and test of spacecraft primary and secondary structures using industry standard structural analysis software and tools. You will need a strong understanding of the basic principles of statics, finite element analysis, mechanics of materials, strength analysis, stress, and composite analysis.
Must-haves:

• Bachelor's of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related discipline and typically 6(six) or more years of relevant experience
• Understanding of engineering principles and practices
• Experience with Computer Aided Engineering tools
• Familiarity with working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams

Strongly Preferred:

• Experience with structural analysis
• Must possess Aerospace related experience analyzing modal, random vibration, shock, and stress including model correlation
• Experience with application of numerical results to relevant structural codes and criteria including fatigue and fracture analysis.
• Experience with space / launch environments and environments derivation
• Experience with FEA software such as NASTRAN is required
• Experience with CAD Software and MATLAB preferred

Preferred:

• Active US Government security clearance
• Experience applying and interpreting Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5
• Understanding of Engineering Simulation such as Finite Element structural analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Thermal Analysis
• Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry
• Knowledge of industry-standard mechanical design principles, to include, but not limited to parametric design, model-based definition, material hardware selection, manufacturing, and production processes

Estimated Starting Salary Range: $91,154.71 - $125,337.72
