The Space Destinations organization is a diverse, collaborative team tasked with rapidly creating the next generation of extraplanetary technology, products, and capabilities for Sierra Space. We are hands-on, embrace risk, and move quickly to deliver impactful solutions for our customers. The stress analyst supports the concept, architecture, design, build, verification and validation, and operation of innovative robotic and manned spacecraft and subsystems for Low Earth Orbit (LEO), lunar, and deep space applications.
Specifically, you will be working on structural subsystems of our cutting edge LIFE Habitat. As a stress analyst, you will appraise the structural integrity of primary and secondary structures via classical hand calculations and computational methods in order to support component design throughout the product lifecycle. You will evaluate complex systems comprising of metallic, composite, and softgoods materials.
Must-haves:
- Bachelor's of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering or other related discipline and typically 6 or more years of relevant experience
- Expertise with Finite Element (FE) analysis tools such as Nastran and FEMAP
- Proficiency generating FE and analytical models of mechanical components and assemblies
- Proficiency using classical analysis using industry-standard hand calculation methods
- Experience using NASA and aerospace industry standards (e.g., NASA 5020)
- Understanding of aerospace engineering principles and practices
- Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary design and development teams
Preferred:
- Significant experience with composite materials, mechanisms, or ground support and test equipment
- Proficient with static, vibration, acoustic, modal, and shock analysis methods
- Experience with material and geometric nonlinearity
- Significant experience developing software tools to expedite analyses
- Knowledge of NASA and aerospace industry-standard mechanical design principles, to include, but not limited to parametric design, model-based definition, material hardware selection, manufacturing and production processes
- Experience performing fatigue and damage tolerance analysis utilizing tools such as NASGRO or AFGROW
- Experience performing composite and metallic structural member sizing and optimization using Hypersizer or HyperX.
- Experience authoring structural substantiation reports
- Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry

Physical/Mental/Emotional Requirements:
- Frequently walk, sit, stand, climb stairs and steps
- Frequently repeat same hand, arm, and finger motion many times to include finger and hand dexterity

Estimated Starting Salary Range: $91,154.71 - $125,337.72
