Your role:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Structural Engineer - Vibroacoustic Specialist (ADV000667) to join our team with JETS II located on Johnson Space Center in Houston TX. This position will support NASA's major human spaceflight programs supporting vehicle design and qualification.

What you'll do all day:

  • Perform modal, random vibration, vibroacoustic, and shock analysis Build and process structural dynamic models
  • Be proficient in finite element, statistical energy, and boundary element modeling techniques
  • Perform modal and vibroacoustic model correlation and environment reconstruction
  • Support modal, vibroacoustic, random vibration, and shock testing
  • Support NASA qualification and acceptance testing
  • Prepare structural analysis reports and presentations
  • Provide guidance for test setup and test plans
  • Perform other tasks as assigned

Minimum requirements for this position:

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering and a minimum of 2 - 5 years of experience in the field or in a related area
  • Familiarity with desktop software applications, MS Office is required
  • Basic understanding of VA-One, Wave-6, or equivalent vibro-acoustic analysis program
  • Familiarity with NASTRAN or equivalent FEM software - MATLAB, C++, and/or Python programming experience
  • Basic understanding of statistical energy and boundary element modeling techniques
  • Familiarity with shock, vibration, and acoustic measurement and testing
  • Solid foundation of vibroacoustic and structural dynamic fundamentals, including power spectral density (PSD), overall sound pressure levels (OASPL), and shock response spectra (SRS)
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • U.S. Citizenship is required for all applicants
Desired skills and experience for this position:

  • BS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited engineering school and five (5) years of direct engineering experience, or an MS degree from an accredited engineering school and three (3) years of direct engineering experience, or Ph.D. and one (1) year of direct engineering experience
  • Working proficiency of VA-One, Wave-6, or equivalent vibro-acoustic program
  • Proficiency in shock, vibration, and acoustic environment measurement, prediction, analysis, and/or laboratory testing
  • Proficiency in statistical energy and boundary element modeling techniques
  • Previous spaceflight hardware experience, specifically with dynamic analysis and testing
