The Studio Design Leader (SDL) is responsible for providing leadership and coordination of efforts to achieve design excellence within the studio. The SDL will work in close partnership with the Executive Vice President, Director of Architectural Design, Market Leader, and Studio Leader to cultivate a culture of design excellence within the studio by emphasizing application of the Firm's Design Vision. Our work covers a variety of project types including large scale mixed-use, office, multi-family residential, and work place to name a few.
Responsibilities:
Client & Business Development
- Collaborate with Project Executives and other Designers in business development and marketing activities.
- Act when needed as primary design interface with clients and consultants.
- Create and sustain client relationships, as well as foster relationships to continue to extend our corporate/mixed-use design practice.
- Candidate must be willing and able to travel for project assignments on occasion.
Business Outcomes
- Provide oversight of projects to ensure successful, quality outcomes with focus on application of firm's Design Vision.
- Provide leadership and direction for the execution of the entire design for a given Studio.
- Act as a resource to other designers within the Studio.
- Maintaining communication with the project teams, the Project Executives, and Studio Leaders.
People & Culture
- Mentor junior design staff to provide design and career guidance.
- Lead, collaborate, and mentor design teams on overall design concepts and presentation strategies for client projects.
- Dynamic and charismatic leader bringing a passion for design, collaboration, and team building across our Life and Work Places platform.
- Collaborate with both the Firmwide LWP Practice and the local Gresham Smith offices.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Professional degree from accredited school or design of architecture or Interior Design.
- 15+ years of professional experience.
- Previous proven track record of project delivery and leadership with similar project scales and complexities.
- Excellent design skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Capable of fully conveying design story.
- Familiar with design software.
- Strong leadership, communication and relationship management skills.
- Ability to build and maintain excellent interpersonal relationships with design teams.
- Commitment to advancing firm's Design Vision.
