JOB SUMMARY

Location Variable Homebase Lake Pointe Rowlett, occasional travel to other location when needed, such as BSW Medical Center Irving TX

Shift Variable 7 am - 3:30 pm M-F

Preferred Experience Must have at least 2 yrs of accessioning specimens Performing bone marrows and helping with Frozen Sections FNA procedures and slide staining

The Grossing Assistant assists in the gross description of specified simple and complex surgical specimens including selection and submission of specimens for histological, microbiological, immunological, electron microscopy and other specialized testing. Assist with specimen collection and processing during Fine Needle Aspiration procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

• Utilizes on-the-job training, acquired skills, judgement and problem solving skills to examine, describe, and dissect selected simple and complex biopsy and surgical specimens under the supervision of a qualified pathologist.
• Prepares and microtomes required tissues for frozen section specimens.
• Assist with patient preparation, specimen collection and processing during Fine Needle Aspiration procedures.
• Assist with specimen collection during kidney biopsy.
• Accessions surgical pathology specimens and FNA cases into the pathology LIS following standard procedures.
• Ensures all stains are properly filtered and rotated according to standard procedure.
• Inventories supplies and ensures there are adequate supplies at all times.
