Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
The System Manager of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) reports directly to the BSW Director of Infection Prevention and Control and has specific responsibilities and scope in managing IPC staff, and supporting BSW infection prevention policies, procedures, and standards in assigned areas of responsibility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Supervises IPC managers across BSWH which includes responsibility for, or whose recommendations are given weight, for hiring, training, mentoring, determining work allocation, and performance evaluation, problem resolution, up to and including termination.
Serves as a subject matter expert to hospital IPC leaders and teams related to their management of serious infection outbreaks, identification of complex infection control problems, and management and resolution of serious infection risks and trends.
Plans, organizes, develops, and implements systemwide educational programs for employees to maintain compliance with the regulatory agencies, increase awareness of nosocomial infections; techniques for avoidance and preventive measures to provide a safe environment for hospital employees, staff, patients, and visitors.
Identifies resources needed to support implementation of BSWH IPC Plans and programs.
Provides IPC staffing resources and/or IPC program coverage at BSWH facilities as directed.
Promotes and facilitates BSWH continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities to achieve BSWH infection prevention-related goals.
Coordinates BSWH preparation efforts in collaboration with city/county/state for actual or potential IPC issues such as preparedness for communicable diseases of high consequence/impact.
Serves as a subject matter expert and a key participant in infection prevention and control audits and mock surveys across BSWH.
Compiles, interprets, and reports BSWH surveillance data and other infection prevention-related performance improvement data and disseminates to appropriate stakeholders.
Performs other position-appropriate duties as required in a competent, professional and courteous manner.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
Bachelor's degree in nursing, epidemiology, public health, or related field preferred.
Master's degree preferred.
3+ years of experience in healthcare infection control and prevention, environmental health,
or related area.
1+ years of experience in a leadership role.
Certification in Infection Control (CBIC) required.
Knowledge of infectious disease management, epidemiology, microbiology, sterilization and
disinfection, public health principles, and statistical analysis of clinical data required.
Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation requirements to ensure program compliance
across the healthcare system.
Ability to communicate effectively with physicians, clinicians, and leadership.
Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
