Primary Responsibilities

HDR Ann Arbor, nationally ranked Power Delivery team is seeking Substation Design Interns who have a passion for the power industry. Substation Design Interns will perform tasks with varying levels of complexity, which are assigned by a Project Engineer, Project Leader, or Project Manager. Tasks may include:
  • Assisting in the design and development of for power substations, which could include structural and foundation design.
  • Assist Substation Engineers in preparing design packages
  • Develop, prepare, and modify substation drawings, including A/C diagrams, D/C schematics, and logic and functional diagrams
  • Performing simple calculations
  • Participate in field reviews
  • Perform other duties as needed

Required Qualifications
  • Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or a graduate ABET accredited electrical engineering program.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Possess strong problem solving and communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint) applications and a strong desire to learn.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefer 2 years completed towards engineering degree with a 3.0+ GPA
  • Courses in Power/Energy a plus
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to field of study/industry
  • Experience with computer-aided design programs (AutoCAD, Microstation, etc.) is desired but not required for consideration.
  • Preference given to local candidates.
