The Program

The HAROLD Internship Program is one of the most advanced trainings of its kind for early-career professionals looking to push their critical thinking and know-how to the limit during an exhilarating 10-week experience. During this paid internship, interns work alongside top professionals in the field, participating in everything from strategy discussions to creative sessions aimed at capturing national news, shaping public opinion and sparking community engagement.

The HAROLD Internship Program culminates in a real-world challenge where interns research, design and present a campaign for a current BCW client to the agency's senior management, receiving feedback, tips and insights that would ordinarily take years to obtain. The summer internship program offers an invaluable career-development experience that often leads to employment opportunities at BCW after the program concludes. The program will run from June 5-August 11, 2023 and for the growth intern specifically, you will be located in the Washington, DC or Chicago, IL area. The health and well-being of our employees, including you as our future intern, are our top priorities. All of our offices are open and we plan to welcome you to them as many days a week as you'd like, but BCW North America is currently following an 8 day/month in the office hybrid policy.

The Role

BCW's North America Growth team focuses on growing and retaining the agency's client portfolio and supports client growth and retention across 12 offices and four practices (brand, corporate affairs, healthcare, and technology); the selected individual(s) will be supporting a network of over 1,000 public relations and communications marketing professionals as they ideate, develop, and build communications programs and campaigns across a variety of industries.

The Growth team is looking for an energetic and passionate person to learn and join our team of growth drivers. The position will encompass a wide array of responsibilities, with a focus on business development initiatives supporting the team and agency including:

• Project managing net new business and organic growth projects
• Drafting initial proposals in partnership with client teams
• Organizing and maintaining a repository of content (case studies, biographies, capabilities) and previous proposals
• Managing the agency's internal business development data management platform
• Conducting secondary research briefings and media audits to inform proposals
• Developing potential thought leadership ideas in pursuit of identifying of new clients
• Participating in creative, strategy, and experiential planning brainstorms

Experience that contributes to your success:

• At the time of the internship, must be a recent (May/June) 2023 graduate or a rising senior (currently Juniors and Seniors)
• Strong research, written and verbal communication skills
• Able to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment with the ability to handle quick turn projects and comfortable working with senior business leaders
• Interest in (but not limited to) business strategy, intelligence, and analytics, marketing, sales, and communications
