Boundless Bio (BBI) is a San Diego-based, next generation precision oncology company employing an exciting new area of cancer biology, extrachromosomal DNA (“ecDNA”), to revolutionize the way cancer is treated. We are seeking a motivated intern to support our bioinformatic efforts and play a significant role in helping us transform exciting ecDNA discoveries into the next generation of cancer medicines.
As an intern at BBI you will have an opportunity to:
- Be part of a bioinformatic science team learning and working on drug discovery and biomarker projects as a team member, typically under the direction of a Scientist or Senior Research Associate.
- Build a network of colleagues that will grow throughout your time with us and beyond.
- Participate in BBI meetings, seminars, and presentations, as well as social events and community volunteer projects.
- Experience working in a fast-paced biotech company.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Play a significant role in building bioinformatic pipelines for data analysis.
- Benchmark next generation sequencing (NGS) pipeline tools for variant annotation and filtering, gene fusion calling and copy number segmentation methods.
- Establish and populate data visualization tools and datasets such as cBioPortal.
- Perform general ecDNA biology bioinformatic research such as literature searches for relevant data and methods.
- Download and analyze public datasets as directed.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Science program focused on Bioinformatics, Computational Sciences or Computational Biology
- Preferred completion of minimum of 2 years undergraduate
- Biologic Science majors with interest/experience with coding and bioinformatics will be considered
- Knowledge and experience with at least one coding language including R, Java, Python
- Familiarity with version control / Git
- Desired experience with Bash Scripting
- Desired knowledge of Next Generation Sequencing bioinformatic methods and pipelines
- Desired experience with analyzing large datasets and multimodal datasets
- Strong organization and communication skills
This is a paid, onsite intern role starting summer break, for either 20 hours/week or 40 hours/week until fall semester starts. You must currently reside in the San Diego area and be authorized to work for any employer in the US as we do not provide relocation assistance or sponsorship for Intern roles. The anticipated pay range for this internship is $20 - $25/hr. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to years of education, previous relevant experience, etc.
