About Hexagon Bio:

Hexagon Bio leverages a genomics-based platform and understanding of natural product evolution to develop next-generation medicines for human disease. Hexagon Bio's algorithms identify gene clusters that encode the machinery needed to produce specialized metabolites that can be harnessed against human disease targets. Our unique platform allows us to produce new chemical leads based on these findings. We use data science, genomics, synthetic biology, and automation to discover potent, evolutionarily refined small molecules and their cognate targets from fungal genomes, and apply medicinal chemistry when needed to optimize these molecules into truly transformative medicines.

Job Description:

We are searching for a highly motivated Lab Operations Summer Intern to support the Operations team in revamping the chemical inventory system & general lab administration tasks.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain chemical inventory
  • Auditing current lab chemical inventory and volumes 
  • Collaborate with lab personnel and lab manager to properly dispose of unnecessary chemicals (through ACT)
• Update Hexagon’s safety data sheets
  • Cross matching and updating our Safety Data Sheets (SDS) folder with up-to-date documents
  • Uploading SDSs into Google Drive
• Deploy a chemical inventory system where Hexagon can track incoming and depleted chemicals.
  • Research chemical inventory systems suitable for Hexagon’s business needs
  • Provide a recommendation on a system and process for Hexagon
• Support additional Operations team projects as needed

Key Qualifications: 

• Outstanding multitasker with a strong desire to learn new skills
• Currently enrolled in a science education program at a university
• Ability to work at Menlo Park, CA location for the course of the 8 week internship
• Previous internship experience (preferred)
• Previous work experience (preferred)
• Previous lab experience (preferred)

Additional Information

The pay range for this intern position is $20 - $28 per hour. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for undergraduate interns for the position across California locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
