Job Description

WestCoast Children’s Clinic, located in Oakland, California, is a non-profit community psychology clinic that provides mental health services to Bay Area children, youth and families. The Supervising Senior Account will coordinate accounting duties within the Finance department and manage the monthly close.  Responsibilities will also include preparing monthly financial reports, performing account reconciliations, maintaining the general ledger, preparing tax returns, assisting with audit preparations, and performing other accounting duties as assigned.  Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Supervising Senior Accountant will also provide direct supervision and oversight to the Staff Accountant, Senior Accountant and Payroll Accountant or junior staff in the department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations.
  • Oversee and approve all balance sheet reconciliation and other Operating Accounts.
  • Review the general ledger for proper coding of expenditures each month and new general ledger accounts as needed for new programs and services.
  • Review and approve bi-monthly payroll and related reconciliations.
  • Preparation of monthly financial statements.
  • Manage accounts receivable, collections, and account aging.
  • Monitor and manage relationships with vendors.
  • Manage internal and external requests for financial information.
  • Prepare and post month-end closing entries.
  • Responsible for providing primary supervision and support to the Staff Accountant, Senior Accountant, and Payroll Accountant.
  • Prepare monthly financial reporting packages and distribute reports on a timely basis.
  • Play a lead role in the annual audit and tax preparation by an external accounting firm.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably working with non-profits or healthcare clinics.
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of the accounting cycle and accounting rules (GAAP/FASB).
  • Strong understanding of general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing and payroll systems.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical skills with experience in financial and variance analysis.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organizational and stress management skills.
  • Ability to train and supervise staff.
  • Experience with computerized accounting ledger systems, preferably Abila MIP.
  • Experience with ADP payroll systems.
  • Experience with G-Suite Applications.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products, especially Excel worksheets, including advanced applications.
  • Ability to prioritize and work accurately with close attention to detail, strong time management skills and an ability to work within defined deadlines.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a diverse multidisciplinary team.

Position Details and Compensation:

This is a full-time, exempt position reporting to the Accounting Manager. Salary range 85,000-100,000 per year depending on experience, and includes benefits, 403b, and performance-based compensation plans.
