Summary
This position is located at the NAVAL STATION NORFOLK - NORFOLK, VA., Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department, Commercial Activities Division. The incumbent functions as the manager for the assigned Bowling Center facility, or facilities.

Qualifications
A qualified candidate possesses the following:
A minimum of three years general work experience that demonstrates progressively responsible administrative, professional, technical work involving facility, program and staff supervision and management. A minimum 2 years successful experience in a qualified bowling center and/or bowling related programs, with a minimum 6 months documented supervisory/leader and/or assistant management experience. Knowledge of military MWR and/or NAF policies and procedures preferred. Must demonstrate ability to deal effectively with subordinates, supervisory and management officials and patrons. Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing. Basic understanding of budgeting an activity level financial management. Ability to operate a personal computer and perform basic word processing and spreadsheet tasks using Microsoft and bowling specific software.
Supervisory Controls:
Reports directly to the Bowling Operations Manager, who provides general assignments and objectives. The incumbent plans and carries out much of the bowling program independently and handles problems and issues in accordance with standing instructions and official policies. Work is reviewed for achievement of objectives and goals as set by the Manager and for the overall facility operations and patron satisfaction.

Guidelines:
Guidelines include but are not limited to: BUPERS Instruction 1710.llC, BUPERS Instruction 5300.IOA, and directives from higher authority, Command, MWR and Commercial Activities Division, and established standard operating procedures (SOPs). The incumbent uses established guidelines and published policy, for the basic operation of the program. The incumbent uses some independent judgment in adapting guidelines and in translating program policies into positive and practical program plans.
Complexity:
The work consists of continuing assignments involving a wide variety of different and unrelated methods, and processes related to oversight of one or more bowling centers. Decisions regarding what needs to be done include the assessment of problems encountered such as changes in patron interests and needs. The work usually requires the assessment of such critical elements as employee turnover rates, current and projected operating costs, structural or physical condition of facility and assets to formulate recommendations.
Scope & Effect:
The incumbent assists with the planning, development and management a bowling program. The services provided may be highly visible, and directly contribute to the success and utilization of the overall site services, facilities and programs.
Personal Contacts:
MWR and/or Command staff, program participants, active duty military personnel, retirees and family members, visitors, business contacts and the general public comprise the majority of personal contacts. Contacts may also include visiting celebrities, business representatives, political representatives, and local community organizations, either individually or in groups. Contacts are also with other base organizations, vendors and outside agencies.
Purpose of Contacts:
Contacts are for the purpose of planning, implementing, and administering the bowling program to motivate participation, and to gather and disseminate information. Contacts with department personnel are to determine needs, identify sources, and coordinate services. Contacts with VIPs are generally in planning, preparing and/or presenting programs or events. Other base agencies and vendors are for the purpose of reporting facility/maintenance/equipment problems, researching or purchasing equipment and supplies, or obtaining services.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
Administrative work is primarily sedentary and generally performed in an office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated. Other requirements may include lifting/moving supplies and equipment assisting with maintenance and equipment malfunctions, and traveling to facilities or other sites
Special Requirements
Expected to progressively pursue Navy Bowling Center Management Certification. Must possess and maintain a current state driver's license, as travel is required. Irregular tours of duty (nights, weekends and holidays) are required.
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

Salary is dependent on experience and/or education.
