Job Description
Summary
This position is located at Camp Zama, Sagamihara Housing Area, Child Development Center.
Must be able to work occasional nights, weekends, and special events to meet mission requirement. Applicants should be available to work shifts within facility open hours.
- Child Development Center (Zama and Sagamihara Housing Area): Monday - Friday 0530 - 1800
Requirements
Conditions of Employment
- Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of appointment.
- Direct Deposit and Social Security Card is required.
- Meet qualification/eligibility/physical/background requirements for this position.
- Must have current health assessment which documents good mental and physical health, freedom from communicable disease, and immunizations in accordance with current Army and DoD policy including annual influenza vaccinations.
- A one year probationary period may be required (either initially or upon conversion, if applicable).
- Satisfactory performance, successful completion of training requirements and demonstrated on the job competency is required. Travel to on and off post locations required.
- May be subject to an irregular hours, evening and or weekends.
- Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) Check.
- Travel to on and off post locations required.
- Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para 2 to include a Child Care Tier 1 background investigation.
- The Crime Control Act must be successfully completed and maintained.
Qualifications
- For positions in Child Development Facilities: The education must have been in child development, early childhood education, home economics (early childhood emphasis), elementary education, special education or other fields appropriate to the position to be filled such as directly related behavioral science.
OR
A combination of education and experience - courses equivalent to a major in a subject matter field (24 semester hours) appropriate to the position (see above), plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the four-year course of study described above.
In addition to meeting one of the requirements above, candidate must also possess all of the following:
1. Experience supervising or leading caregivers within child/youth facility-based programs.
2. Experience managing a classroom setting within child and youth programs.
3. Experience implementing and overseeing a structured child and youth program curriculum.
4. Demonstrated verbal communication skills gained through conducting training, delivering presentations, conducting meetings with parents and/or staff, or similar.
Applicants with experience in the following areas may be considered Highly Preferred and sent to management first for consideration:
Highly Preferred candidates will posses the following:
- One (1) year experience in an Army CYS program.

The Area of Consideration for this vacancy announcement is within the local commuting area of Sagamihara Housing Area, Camp Zama, Japan. (Military Spouse Preference (MSP) and Involuntarily Separated Military Preference (ISMP) Preference eligible candidates are included in the area of consideration.)

Pay-Band (NF or CY) Allowances and Differentials
- This is a pay-banded position.
- Sunday premium pay may be authorized by the Garrison Commander. If authorized, only regular (full-time, part-time, limited tenure and seasonal) employees may be paid Sunday premium pay. When authorized, Sunday premium will be paid at the rate of 25% of the basic rate for all hours of non-overtime, when any part of the scheduled tour of duty is performed on Sunday (to a maximum of 8 hours per Sunday). Sunday premium will be paid at the rate of 25% of the basic rate for all hours of non-overtime, when any part of the scheduled tour of duty is performed on Sunday (to a maximum of 8 hours per Sunday).
- Night differential may be authorized by the Garrison Commander. When authorized, night differential will be paid at the rate of 10% basic rate for hours of non-overtime work performed between 1800-0600.
Incentives and bonuses
- Incentives will not be paid.
Other:
- Open to US and Non US Citizens that have affiliation to Camp Zama, Sagamihara housing area or surrounding bases.
- This is a Regular Full-Time position with a minimum owrk week of 40 hours and eligible for benefits and leave accrual.
