Summary

Support the Military's Quality of Life programs! The Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) department of Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) provides fitness, recreation, lodging and food and beverage programs for service members, their families, retired military and civilian employees. This position is assigned to the Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) Community Recreation; Fleet Readiness; Commander, Navy Installations command (CNIC); Naval Base Kitsap - Bremerton.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion and maintenance of National Agency (NACI) background check
  • Must be able to obtain certifications in First Aid and CPR within the first 90 days on the job
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • . Must be able to obtain a food handler’s, Controlling Alcohol Risk Effectively (CARE).

Qualifications

  • A four-year undergraduate degree in Recreation or three years of comparable experience that illustrates a progression in management experience
  • Possesses comprehensive knowledge of recreation policies, requirements, administrative practices and procedures relating to the planning, budgeting, scheduling and coordinating of recreational programs and the efficient operation and utilization of facilities and equipment
  • Must possess skill in negotiating program issues and operational requirements with patrons and personnel inside and outside the local installation and community organizations
  • Must have knowledge of general business principles for financial planning/reporting and of the Department of the Navy budget process methods for APF and NAF funds to ensure optimum use of resources
  • Knowledge of business principles and personnel management
  • Ability to communicate and clarify the application of the department's policies to employees and management personnel
  • Demonstrated ability to manage various functions through subordinate staff
  • Ability to communicate proficiently both orally and in writing
  • Skill in interpersonal relations

Education

Knowledge gained through education and training (i.e. Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Marketing, Business or closely related field) and/or equivalent recreation related work experience

Additional information

  • The work requires frequent physical exertion while instructing or guiding participants in a variety of activities
  • Work may require sitting, walking, long periods of standing, bending and lifting of moderately heavy items up to 40 pounds
  • Work may require working outside for special events or leading outdoor group outings or trips
  • Hours of work will vary as required by the needs of the program to include split days off, evenings, weekends and holidays
