Supplier Quality Engineer
Job Description
Position Overview:
Solid Power is seeking a Supplier Quality Engineer to join our talented team of engineers and scientists working to revolutionize the battery industry through the development of next generation, all solid‐state rechargeable batteries. Solid Power is a dynamic, fast‐paced, collaborative, and innovative team environment. The preferred candidate will have 5+ years of supplier quality engineering experience in a manufacturing or chemical processing environment.
Job Duties:
- Provide leadership and management for the supplier quality department.
- Review Solid Power manufacturing specifications to identify material requirements.
- Work with procurement to source and assess the best supplier to deliver the necessary materials.
- Visit supplier facilities and observe the manufacturing environment to review and assess their procedures.
- Conduct supplier quality control audits on a regular basis to ensure supplier and their supplies remain in compliance with company and federal manufacturing and production standards.
- Review incoming supplies and products to check for defects and ensure quality.
- Conduct tests and assessments on products to identify quality issues.
- Maintain detailed reports on supplier quality, including defect rates and areas that result in flaws.
- Provide technical advice and guidance to suppliers to reduce defect rates.
- Serve as a liaison between Solid Power’s senior management and the suppliers to identify quality issues and come up with solutions (8D).
- Review engineering and manufacturing specifications to identify materials needed for product assembly for all manufactured goods.
- Contact suppliers and liaise between product engineers, manufacturing personnel and suppliers to secure required materials for the production floor.
- Communicate with suppliers regularly to address any concerns and foster an environment that facilitates continual improvement in working relationships.
- Maintain a supplier database and include performance evaluations and quality control audits in the database for in-house access by company and manufacturing management personnel.
- Assist with logistics, including communications with suppliers when materials arrive at receiving dock with packaging and receiving issues.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Excellent statistical analysis and quality assurance skills.
- In-depth knowledge of the technical aspects of manufacturing and engineering.
- Good working knowledge of quality control standards and government compliance.
- Experience with manufacturing and production processes and engineering principles.
- Ability to provide guidance to improve process efficiency.
- Excellent communication and liaison skills.
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
- Proven track record of driving continuous quality improvement in a manufacturing environment.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, chemical engineering, or related discipline and 5+ years of experience in supplier quality engineering.
- Manufacturing or chemical industry experience a plus.
- Knowledge of Quality Management Systems (e.g., TS 16949, ISO901, IATF 16949); expertise in automotive standards desirable.
- Structured problem solving and analytical skills including strong technical skills in statistical tools such as Design of Experiments (DOE).
- Experience with new product introductions and in transitioning products from R&D to high volume manufacturing is highly desirable.
- Prior management experience a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to wear a respirator.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk.
Salary Range: $61,000 - $114,000/year
