Job Description

Our Company

Miso Robotics is transforming the food industry, and making lives better. We've developed an AI-powered kitchen robot named Flippy which automates the most repetitive of kitchen tasks, such as operating a deep fryer. Flippy is fun to watch, but under the hood, he’s powered by a sophisticated AI platform – all driven by our proprietary deep learning experience and patented technologies.

Miso is a well known first-mover in kitchen automation, AI, and robotics. The company has raised over $100 million from crowdfunding, which we believe makes it THE most successful crowdfunding story in history. It has successfully piloted its products with the most prominent global brands in food, and now it’s time for the company to partner with institutional capital and super-charge the commercialization of what we do.

The challenge of bringing AI and robotics into commercial kitchens requires many disciplines to work together, and the composition of our teams at Miso reflects this multidisciplinary approach. We’re proud to have built a world-class team, and we’re looking for more exceptional people to join us.

If you believe, like we do, that the future of the kitchen involves artificial intelligence and robots (HINT: It definitely does!), and if you want to count yourself among the handful of amazing people on the leading edge of creating them, then Miso Robotics may be the right place for you!

Our Values

  • We live with a TEAM mindset - we win together.
  • We work relentlessly together to solve issues.
  • We use polite and direct candor - ego has no place here.
  • We operate with rigor - superb execution is a core skill.
  • We are bought in, each of us is dedicated to the mission.
  • Innovation is in our blood - we are intrepid.
  • We think big and we’re here to make an impact.

Benefits We Offer

  • Company Equity
  • Flexible Vacation
  • Comprehensive benefits
  • 401K plan
  • Accelerated growth opportunities
  • Free snacks from our robot chefs

The Role

As a Support Engineer at Miso Robotics, you will be the main point person to solve complex technical issues that come up at our customers’ sites where Flippy is installed. You will interface between field support staff and development engineers to help resolve engineering issues that are escalated. You will work closely with very talented software developers and engineers to help continuously evolve our systems to support an ever-increasing diversity of kitchen environments and tasks, allowing Flippy to operate broadly throughout the restaurant industry.

The pay range for this position is $80,000-$105,000 + equity + benefits. As a pre-revenue company, equity is a key component of compensation. Our salary ranges are determined by data from our industry peers, the level of responsibility, job-related skills required, training, education, experience, and the current stage of Miso’s growth. The range posted for this role represents a range that Miso Robotics, in good faith, believes it is willing to pay at the time of this posting.

What You’ll Do

  • Work with hardware, software, and systems engineers to identify root causes of problems that come up at customer sites, run tests to verify causes, and resolve issues directly or relay bug reports for unresolved issues back to the development teams.
  • Act as the second level of escalation for system issues in production units; coordinate with other teams at Miso to ensure system issues are resolved on time and within budget.
  • Be the voice of our robot fleet and the support organization when communicating in the engineering organization.
  • Act as the customer facing expert for system setup and configuration.
  • Act as the technical contact for 3rd party technicians on maintenance inquiries.
  • Characterize and analyze Miso product subsystems to understand their functionality, tolerances, and influential factors for key system metrics and issues.
  • Develop and document procedures for maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair on Miso products.
  • Understand customer needs and make appropriate recommendations/briefings.
  • Support onboarding and training of Miso Support Agents.
  • Provide feedback regarding hardware assembly and repair processes to software/hardware engineering and design teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related engineering field required.
  • 2+ years of experience required.
  • Experience with interpreting functional, electrical, and mechanical diagrams.
  • Experience with Linux systems, Git, and Github.
  • Proficiency with Python and/or C++.
  • Experience in writing technical documentation.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule when needed to solve urgent problems.
  • There may be times you will be required to be on call, or part of an escalation list.
  • The position will require up to 25% travel.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to work in our HQ in Pasadena, CA daily.
  • Experience with optics and/or computer vision is a plus.
  • Experience with robotics is preferred.

Preferred Requirements

  • Understand and deal well with rapid development cycles; remain flexible and calm in the face of challenges.
  • Strong problem solving capability.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Great at managing multiple tasks and getting stuff done in a fast paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to learn at hyperspeed.
