A Brief Overview
The SUPV-Audiology is responsible for assisting and collaborating with the Clinic Manager to provide quality direction and delivery of Audiological Services. The incumbent is responsible for facilitating the flow of patience care services and supervision, and also coordinates the delivery of optimal, cost effective quality health care services. Primary duties are a combination of administrative coordination, clinical supervision, and direct patient care and supports the organizations mission, philosophy, priorities and goals including departmental goals. Also manages assigned staff and utilization of resources within assigned areas to meet financial and productivity standards, quality standards and strategic goals of the department and hospital.

What you will do
- Supervises the Audiology staff and allocating environmental, technical and personnel resources to meet the needs of patients, families, and colleagues.
- In collaboration with Clinic Manager responsible for interviewing, hiring, orientating, training, and evaluating the competency of Audiology staff.
- Conducts Audiologist performance appraisals and settling of developmental goals; identifies and resolves conflicts related to the clinic and recommends or initiates disciplinary action as appropriate.
- Models leadership by coaching Audiologist staff about their roles in fulfilling the clinic's mission; acknowledges the positive contributes of staff; promotes teamwork.
- Participates in planning, implementing, and evaluating clinic performance, process and quality improvement activities
- Provides competent and compassionate patient care (appropriate to age and condition of the patient), serving as a role model and mentor, and assists with the clinic workload.
- Provides leadership in developing policies, procedures, standards of care and critical paths to promote positive patient outcomes.
- Supports the professional growth of clinical staff through identification of learning needs, design of developmental plans, and facilitating learning opportunities. Collaborates with the Clinic Manager and others to promote learning.
- Evaluates functionality of area workflow and processes, making recommendations for improvement, while ensuring compliance with applicable requirements of the organization, Federal, State and any other regulatory agency including The Joint Commission. Continuously assesses and ensures improvement of the department performance based on customer needs.
- Directs and participates in improving performance and services which benefit staff, customers and patients.
- Maintains professional self-development by participating in education opportunities available both internally and externally. Participates in public information events, volunteer fairs, etc. to promote the institution
- Participates in the interview process and helps with selection of new staff members. Evaluates staffing requirements for the department, ensuring a sufficient number of qualified, competent persons are available to provide services. Recommends changes in staffing levels as warranted
- Supervises Otolaryngology residents and fellows, Audiology graduate students, and medical students in the evaluation and interpretation of measures of auditory and vestibular systems. Prepares productivity reports of activity for Audiologists as necessary and apprises Director/Manager of issues and needs.
- Serves as a liaison between Audiology and the ENT Clinic as well as other departments within the hospital and LPCH (Children's Hospital at Stanford). Resolves issues that arise daily.
- Serves as a resource for staff and customers regarding audiology related concerns (i.e.: hearing aids, cochlear implants, etc.)
- Coordinates training and documentation of essential and mandated education and training programs for audiology staff. Facilitates in-services, education, and consultation to clinic and hospital staff and community professionals to increase knowledge of auditory disorders, implications, and management.
- Administers and interprets developmentally appropriate, comprehensive auditory evaluations and communicates impressions and recommendations to referral sources and family. Assess need for and recommends auditory rehabilitation including but not limited to referrals, hearing device needs, educational needs and associated therapeutic intervention. Counsels referral sources, patients and families regarding diagnostic findings and recommendations. Selects, fits, adjusts, and provides follow-up services for all hearing devices including conventional hearing aids, implantable hearing aids, cochlear implants and assistive devices.
- Undertakes and coordinates specialty programs within the Audiology Division of the Department of Otolaryngology such as comprehensive hearing aid services, advanced diagnostic procedures, operating room services, multidisciplinary programs etc.
- Maintains and helps develop documentation required for authorization and billing. Administers and monitors expenditures. Researches and reports on budget variances and recommends corrective action.
- Develops and implements quality measurements to ensure high service levels while maintaining cost effectiveness. Maintains operational statistics and prepares reports as requested by Manager/Director
Education Qualifications
- MASTER'S DEGREE IN A WORK-RELATED DISCIPLINE/FIELD FROM AN ACCREDITED COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY
Experience Qualifications
- FIVE (5) YEARS OF PROGRESSIVELY RESPONSIBLE AND DIRECTLY RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE, INCLUDING ONE (1) YEAR OF EXPERIENCE MANAGING AND LEADING PROGRAMS.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of needs and methods of referral.
- Knowledge of operation and care of audiological equipment.
- Knowledge of procedures and methodology of auditory diagnosis.
- Knowledge of procedures and methodology of auditory rehabilitation.
- Ability to apply advanced clinical skills in treating difficult and complex cases.
- Ability to clinically supervise, train, and evaluate students/residents/fellows/colleagues.
- Ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, clearly, concisely, and effectively with physicians, patients, families, co-workers, visitors, supervisors, and other health professionals.
- Ability to determine auditory rehabilitation needs. Ability to develop and document clearly and accurately rehabilitation goals that are realistic, measurable, appropriate, evidence-based and that include patient/family input.
