AboutWeSushiUmami Japanese Restaurant is hiring Sushi Chefs & Assistant Sushi Chefs! We are looking for someone who will fit into our team perfectly! Someone who is responsible and hard working. We have a fun & family vibe here at Umami. A Sushi Chef who has at least 2 years in Japanese Restaurant & Assistant Chefs with minimal experience who would like to learn quality Japanese cuisine is welcome! We take pride in our special fish flown in from Japan, Spain, Korea & all over the world. We also are known for our creative rolls & dishes as well as fresh fish :) Pay is negotiable as well as schedule. Please give us an email or a message to set up an in-person interview! Responsibilities • Prepare all types of sushi, including maki, temaki and specialty rolls • Select fresh fruits and vegetables to make high-quality dishes (like avocado, mango and carrots) • Add additional flavors to sushi rolls with ginger, rice vinegar, wasabi and soy sauce, when appropriate • Manage food prep activities, like making sushi rice • Coordinate with our wait staff to ensure proper cooking, considering special requests and food allergies • Prepare foods that are close to the philosophy of Japanese cuisine • Monitor food stock and place orders, as needed • Recommend new, modern recipes, like sushi burgers • Maintain hygiene principles in all cooking areas and clean your space at the end of the shift Skills • Work experience as a Sushi Chef or at a Japanese restaurant is a plus but if not we can always train you! • Good knowledge of various sushi types and sushi-rolling techniques • Ability to work both fast and accurately • Team spirit • Availability to work during business hours, including weekends and evenings • Flexibility to take on various shifts preferred • Certification from a culinary school is a plus Hours: full time will be about 50 hours Job Type: Full-time Pay: $2,800.00 - $4,500.00 per month Benefits: • Employee discount • Flexible schedule • Paid training Work Location: In person
