We are the world’s largest producer of sustainable wood pellets, which provide a low-carbon alternative to fossil fuels.

Enviva is seeking a Sustainability Analyst, who will support research, analytical, and reporting efforts related to our overall ESG strategy as well as internal and external communications related to sustainability and ESG. This role is critical to support Enviva’s increasing commitment to and investment in ESG leadership.

The Analyst will conduct the reporting required to engage external stakeholders around our growing ESG portfolio. For example, the Analyst will support annual GHG inventory preparation following the WRI Corporate GHG Reporting Protocol (Scope 1/2/3), preparation of annual reporting to the SASB Standards, annual updates to the company’s Sustainability Report and project support for our planned initiatives to mitigate GHG emissions along our supply chain.

In addition, the Analyst will support our ongoing stakeholder engagement, thought leadership, and Communications initiatives by keeping track of developments in the published literature and evolving ESG space, supporting responses to queries from media, policymakers, and other stakeholders, and preparing occasional written pieces on sustainability content. This position will report to the Senior Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer.

Responsibilities

Sustainability and ESG Reporting (60%)

  • Manage annual sustainability and ESG reporting processes (e.g. WRI GHG Protocol, SASB, WBCSD KPIs) and other relevant disclosure mechanisms)
    • Communicate results to internal stakeholders to assist with strategic decision-making
    • Provide strategic advice for aligning Enviva sustainability practices and goals with reporting initiatives
    • Maintain documentation for compiling GHG inventories compliant with the GHG Protocol
  • Identify and develop metrics for external reporting that are responsive to investor and stakeholder needs and that highlight Enviva’s commitment to sustainability, stewardship, transparency, and responsibility
    • Assist with ongoing reporting of these metrics on a regular basis for external and internal stakeholders
  • Lead third-party assurance process for ESG metrics and public disclosures

Knowledge Management & Research (25%)

  • Research support to develop and implement Enviva’s climate change mitigation strategy including collecting relevant information and data from relevant parties
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the reporting and regulatory environment, including voluntary ESG frameworks, relevant research on the forestry and energy sectors, and data on emerging markets for wood pellets

Internal and External Communication (15%)

  • Support internal processes to produce data inputs to annual ESG and Sustainability reports
  • Develop materials to support Enviva’s engagement with external sustainability, climate, and ESG groups and initiatives, certification bodies, trade associations, and customers
  • Serve as point person for data requests from cross-functional team for external communication purposes
  • Support the SVP and Chief Sustainability Officer with presentations and communication materials
  • Create internal and external presentations on sustainability topics and data processes

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, Data Analysis or a related field
  • Minimum of two years’ professional experience
  • Experience communicating scientific findings for various audiences
  • Extremely strong writing, speaking and presentation skills, and equally strong interpersonal skills and strategy acumen
  • Ability to manage several projects at once, meet deadlines and ensure quality in fast-paced work environment
  • Sound judgment, strong problem-solving skills and experience working on teams
  • High level of attention to detail and independent work ethic

Preferred Qualifications - What Will Set You Apart

  • Experience with environmental stakeholder engagement preferred
  • Experience compiling and communicating data to influence decision-making and corporate strategy preferred
  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • A professional or academic background in forestry, climate, or wood products preferred
  • Experience performing GHG inventory analysis strongly preferred

Travel requirements

  • Up to 10%

Working Conditions

  • Primarily office-based role
  • Must be able to work in outdoor environments and occasionally in temperatures above 100 degrees and below 32 degrees  
  • Willing and able to work in a hot, humid, cold and noisy industrial environment  
  • Willing and able to maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations, to include wearing safety equipment.

Physical Requirement

  • Primarily computer-based work requiring extended periods of sitting at a computer, typing, but may also including standing, walking, carrying or lifting (up to 50 lbs.) in support of team tasks.
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
