A Brief Summary of This Position:

Our Sustainability Internship is designed to give a successful applicant experience supporting Valmont's Sustainability Program including the gathering of pertinent data and metrics, integration of these metrics into Valmont's Sustainability Report, and general support to Valmont's Green Teams and Environmental Managers. This position will be involved in researching, gathering and reviewing data to complete the G4 reporting requirements under the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standard. In this role the selected intern will report to Valmont's Corporate Director of Environmental Responsibility.

Valmont's internship program mission is to provide a hands-on learning experience through project work, leadership development, job shadowing and interaction with senior leadership.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist with project management for various company initiatives and complete administrative tasks and special projects.
  • Implement and support processes to collect, analyze and report data for Sustainability data.
  • Research or review regulatory, technical or market issues related to sustainability.
  • Proof reading monthly Sustainability Newsletters
  • Creating Power Point Presentations supporting Valmont's Sustainability Initiative
  • Supporting Green Teams as needed in developing tools relating to the conservation of water, energy and reduction in waste to landfill metrics.
  • Researching and writing copy for Valmont's Sustainability Publications
  • Travel will be limited to a 100 Mile radius of Valley Nebraska (no overnight travel) and constitute less than 5% of time.

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  • Understanding of Business (completion of introductory courses in accounting, marketing, finance or any private sector work experience)
  • Sophomore, junior, or senior standing in an accredited BS program in Environmental Science/Studies or any engineering or science discipline (minor or double major in business preferred).
  • Excellent Writing and editing skills
  • Familiarity with the GRI
  • A Passion for helping business reduce costs associated with Energy and Resource Conservation
  • Good Knowledge of Sustainability and a passion to learn
  • Flexible and willing to chip in on admin tasks as needed
  • Complete proficiency with the MS suite

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:

Work is typically performed in an office setting. The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. Some exposure to a manufacturing environment will be required. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. No travel requirements for this position. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. The employee is occasionally required to move about the office. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
