The CIO has complete ownership of the establishment of the organization wide IT strategy and ensures its integration with the enterprise's business strategy and the delivery of all information and technology capabilities required to achieve internal business capability performance success. The CIO is responsible for leading the organization's Information Technology function and building and managing the infrastructure, technologies, and data that enable execution of the IT strategy. The role enables the development of the next generation technologies and platforms that support digital transformation, provides interoperability throughout the product portfolio, and continually adapts IT's processes and skill sets to ongoing changes in the technology and business landscape. This role works closely with Chief Digital Officer to ensure that the development and integration of technologies needed to support customer facing applications and platforms.
As a member of the company's executive leadership team, the CIO participates in and contributes to overall enterprise business model, operating model and business strategy development. The CIO brings a current knowledge and future vision of leveraging information and technology in business model design, business capability performance re-engineering, and support for developing competitive advantage.
Key Responsibilities:
- In support of the enterprise mission determines the operating model for information and technology to foster business-oriented and digital-ready culture, mindsets and practices.
- Directs the design and implementation of IT operating model, organizational structure, and governance process. Uses influencing and negotiation skills to create synergies across the enterprise to enable cost-effective and innovative shared solutions in achievement of business goals.
- Works with stakeholders to continually optimize IT governance and decision-making processes as the business context and technology landscape changes.
- Maintains currency on new technologies and platforms. Provides direction on what emerging technologies should be assimilated, integrated and introduced within the enterprise to ensure IT capabilities respond to the needs of the enterprise's digital business strategy.
- Ensures IT capabilities are delivered reliably, sustainably, cost effectively and securely. Ensures the IT contributions are delivered with agility based on changing business objectives, goals and strategies.
- Provides strategic direction and oversight for the design, development, operation and support of IT systems and programs that fulfill the needs of the business, including enterprise architecture management, application management, security and risk management, and infrastructure and operations support management.
- Oversees measurement and reporting of IT systems' reliability, performance, security, and business value.
- Oversees sourcing decisions and scalable vendor management processes.
- Develop, communicate and ensure compliance with SOX policies and standards.
- Participates fully in the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) process and will own key information technology risks.
- Oversees technology dependencies outside of direct organizational control. This includes reviewing contracts and the creation of alternatives for managing risk.
- Ensure effective disaster recovery policies, standards, execution and testing to align with the enterprise business continuity management (BCM) program goals, with the realization that components supporting primary business processes may be outside the corporate perimeter.
- Contribute to M&A process for acquisitions to ensure information technology alignment and integration
- Create and manage information technology training programs for all employees, contractors and approved system users.
- Supports the development and maintenance of asset inventories, including system, infrastructure and data assets across organization's ecosystem.
Board and Company Relations:
- Participate in Board meetings around topics involving Information Technology includes systems, data and security.
- Promote and be an ambassador of UL Solutions in all situations.
- Participate as an active member of UL Solutions Operating Committee.
- Establishes active relationships with C-level executives and business unit leaders and members of their teams. Contributes as a business executive. Acts as a trusted advisor to ensure all executive leaders can, with the CIO, make confident decisions about the application of information and technology (I&T) within their units and across the enterprise.
- Creates the necessary internal networks among the information technology team and line-of-business executives, corporate compliance, audit, legal and HR management teams to ensure alignment as required.
External Stakeholder Interaction:
- Builds and nurtures external networks consisting of industry peers, ecosystem partners, vendors and other relevant parties to address common trends, findings, incidents and cybersecurity risks.
- Manages the governance of suppliers/vendors related to information technology.
People Management:
- Direct Reports: VP Enterprise Architecture, VP Enterprise Data Management and Analytics, VP Enterprise Delivery, VP Enterprise Technology, Senior Director IT Transition and Execution, Senior Director IT Business Advisors (4).
- Reports to EVP, Chief Transformation Officer.
- Peer of Chief Information Security Officer, Chief Digital Officer (customer facing applications), Enterprise Program Management Organization Senior Director.
- Develops the next generation of IT leaders who are able to build strategic partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to move the business towards digitally enabled growth.
- Develops and maintains an IT workforce with the appropriate mix of business knowledge, technical skills and competencies. Balances the need for growing the agility required to achieve digital business objectives, with ensuring the core IT functions are reliable, stable and efficient.
- Encourages continuous improvement and learning from failures and creates a climate of openness to new ways of working, risk, and uncertainty.
- Contributes to company-level goals for talent development, retention, diversity, and inclusion
- Provides leadership, coaching and direction to the IT leadership team and staff.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience, MBA or Master's Degree preferred.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in a combination of IT, infrastructure or risk management jobs (at least five must be in a senior leadership role with demonstrated experience and success).
- Experience successfully executing programs that meet the objectives of excellence in a diverse global business environment.
- Knowledge and understanding of relevant legal and regulatory requirements, such as: Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX),.
- Sound knowledge of business management.
- Professional management certification is desirable.

- Excellent analytical skills, the ability to manage multiple projects under strict timelines, as well as the ability to work well in a demanding, dynamic environment and meet overall objectives.
