The SVP of Engineering will lead a dynamic software and data engineering team, and will play a pivotal role in the organization's strategic transformation and modernization of our technology stack. You will be the driving force in leading the technical execution and delivery across engineering and data. You will lead organizational change across people, process, and technology and drive delivery and technical decision making for our technology team. You will serve as a cross-functional leader who focuses on collaboration with key stakeholders to execute on the technology vision, strategy, roadmap, and delivery.
The ideal candidate for this role is an engineering leader who is experienced in modernizing an organization's technology stack and can design elegant architectures and dive into deep technical challenges with their teams, while simultaneously connecting business context to technical solutions, growing the engineers under them, managing budgets and performance, and delivering products on time and on scope.
What you will do and achieve:
Lead the development and modernization of an industry leading TMS that supports the orchestration necessary to execute more than 16,000 shipments/day across 35k shippers, 50k carriers, and over 3,000 employees on a single platform. Our industry is evolving quickly, so in addition to building new features, functionality, integrations, and automation that improve the service and execution capabilities of Echo's current products, we are looking to add new services to our platform that our shippers and carriers find valuable.
Manage an organization of over 125 employees and contractors, made up of software engineering, data engineering, and testing. The teams are responsible for building and maintaining Echo's TMS platform comprised of many applications that drive business value.
Work with senior leadership to translate Echo's platform vision and strategy into an actionable roadmap, maintain KPIs to track process, and deliver on-time and on-budget.
Collaborate with the product management, project management, user experience, technology operations, security, and key business stakeholders to deliver on the Echo Global Logistics product vision.
Improve upon standards and practices for development including the software development lifecycle, system architecture, software quality, release management, automation, and service design.
Advise colleagues and executive stakeholders of technology opportunities that could improve the solutions brought to market.
Contribute to Echo Global Logistics's enterprise strategy as a member of its senior leadership team.
Qualifications:
Education• B.S. in Computer Science (or equivalent)
Experience
• 15 or more years of experience managing software engineering teams.• 5 or more years of experience with React and Typescript.• 10 or more years of experience with cloud architecture.• 15 or more years of experience in software engineering.
Key Knowledge & Skills:
• Bachelor's Level Degree with 10+ years of relevant working experience• 15+ years of professional software design and development experience on multi-tiered enterprise applications• Core Technology Requirements: .Net Core, Kubernetes, Angular, React, Kafka, RabbitMQ, AWS, Python, ElasticSearch, SQL Server• Extensive experience with HTTP, JSON, Rest, XML• Understand, implement and manage best practices in an Agile (Scrum) Environment• Experience in a senior management position that works directly with counterpart leaders in: Product, , Infrastructure, Security, and Operations organizations to establish & ensure alignment on tech strategy and objectives• Ability to translate and articulate an engineering strategy/approach to senior executives and other non-technical business leaders• Experience managing a multi-million dollar engineering budget that includes: Vendor/Consulting, Employee Headcount, Training and licensing spend• Extensive experience working directly with Product Management leadership in understanding the product roadmap and establishing a technical strategy to facilitate the implementation of key capabilities• Cloud transformation experience• Digital Transformation Strategies & Approaches• Experience in Enterprise Modernization and Technology Transformation Initiatives

• Manage high-performance software engineering teams, including defining tasks, reviewing designs, facilitating sprint ceremonies, managing releases, guiding training, and hiring talent.• Lead the team from the front, setting a good example not just as a manager but also as an engineer and architect that can go deep into the substance of solutions.• Execute on and evolve the enterprise-wide platform strategy in collaboration with team members, architects, and other members of the senior leadership team.• Identify ambiguities, technical risks, and other challenges development teams may face early in the design phase to ensure smooth execution across the product development teams.• Collaborate well with production operations, product management, and customer support to ensure successful releases and the appropriate management, prioritization, and resolution of defects.• Ensure that dependencies on other teams, such as from infrastructure and the Data Platform, are understood and tracked in a manner that enables successful releases• Clearly communicate decision points, opportunities, and outcomes within the team, to cross-functional areas, and to senior management.• Stay up to date on emerging technologies, standards, and practices.
Work environment/physical demands summary:
This job operates in an office environment or remote and uses a computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed to perform duties. The noise level in the work environment is typical of that of an office with an open seating floor plan. The employee may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the workday.
