Job Description Summary
Reporting directly to the Chief Human Resources Officer, as the Senior Vice President (SVP) for Total Rewards, Associate Wellbeing, and HR Technology Operations, you will lead best-in-class Compensation & Benefits, Associate Wellbeing, People Analytics and HR Technology teams that design, integrate, brand and implement innovative programs across Nationwide Insurance, a Fortune 50 Company. You'll play a critical role in the company's success as an integral member of the HR Executive Leadership team collaborating with HR Business Partners, Finance, Legal, the Board of Directors, and the Office of the Chief Executive Officer. From strategy to tactical input, you'll implement processes, policies, and procedures through an exceptional team.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:
  • Leads, shapes, and defines strategic and operating plans for associate and executive compensation, benefits, associate wellbeing, HR technology operations, and people analytics. Establishes the goals, strategies, action plans and measurements required to ensure programs support business objectives.
  • Champions the communication and education of compensation, benefits, and associate wellbeing programs throughout all levels of the organization, including the brand appropriate design and implementation of communications tools improving the understanding, utilization, and value of the programs.
  • Oversees annual implementation and administration of competitive compensation programs and systems including merit, market and equity analysis, recommendations, and adjustments, short- and long-term variable compensation for associates and executives. Leads a team of compensation professionals who counsel business leaders on pay decisions, compensation practices, and policy and guidelines interpretation.
  • Directs company benefit programs with an eye towards innovation, wellbeing, cost and value for associates and the company. Analyzes the benefits market to determine associate needs, trends, regulations, and practices, and either strengthens existing or develops new programs. Oversees short-term and long-term disability programs and ensures vendor partners provide effective support to associates.
  • Drives technology strategy for HR information systems (HRIS) designed to enhance policies and procedures to enhance processes and policies to enable a seamless and efficient experience throughout the associate lifecycle obtain, record and process employee information. Interfaces with payroll and information systems to continuously review and modify the human resource system to provide accurate and timely information. Identifies trends in HRIS and software developments.
  • Defines key HR metrics through Human Capital Management (HCM), People Analytics and enterprise and BI platforms to design, build, test and deploy people analytics dashboards, data visualizations and predictive models.
  • evelops and promotes strategy for holistic health and wellbeing programs and services for associates with the goal of improving health, wellbeing, resilience, productivity and engagement. Oversees highly skilled Occupational Health team.
  • Directs the management of critical benefit and wellbeing vendors, including Medical, Disability, Educational Assistance, Retirement and 401K vendor.
  • Ensures that internal and legislative policy requirements are met including current knowledge of relevant and related government rules and regulations in the areas of benefits and compensation, including ERISA, FLSA, ADA, FMLA, ACA, COBRA, OSHA, HIPAA, etc.
  • Key partner and direct report to the CHRO, including advising on trends to ensure competitiveness. Manages plans and documents, ensuring compliance as required. Also supports work with the Board Compensation and Benefits Committee and external partners.
  • Leads, coaches, mentors and inspires a team to deliver on organizational strategy and growth initiatives.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to the Chief Human Resources Officer. Manages a team of executive and senior professionals and indirect reports.

Typical Skills and Experience:

Education: Undergraduate degree in human resources, marketing, multicultural studies, business administration, finance or related field. Graduate degree is preferred.

Designations: Professional human resources designations such as Certified Professional - Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM-CP), Senior Certified Professional - Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM-SCP) a plus. CCP (Certified Compensation Professional) through the World-at-work (American Compensation Association) and CEBS (Certified Employee Benefits Specialist) strongly preferred.

Experience: Ten to fifteen years of proven experience in human resources, compensation and benefits, organization effectiveness and culture strategy development as well as general management, community relations, public relations, program and project leadership. At least 10 years as a manager in a large, complex and diverse organization.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Demonstrated skills include action orientation; analysis; budget management; knowledge of the business; community and public relations; consultation; creativity; customer focus; compensation, benefits, wellbeing, HR technology polices, practices and guidelines; knowledge of government rules and regulations in the areas of benefits and compensation, including ERISA, FLSA, ADA, FMLA, ACA, COBRA, OSHA, HIPAA, etc.; facilitation; flexibility; functional and technical expertise in human resources and organization effectiveness. Clear understanding of governance management. Ability to influence and interact at all levels. Proven leadership; organization and political savvy; planning; presentation; problem solving; program and process management; risk management; strategic agility; time management; verbal and written communication skills.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the CEO and CHRO.
